This bird shows up around July every year.  I learned it is not native to this country, yet there are a few of them in Southern California.  I learned some interesting facts about the Pin-tailed Whydah - one is that his tail grows longer during the mating season.  Another is the mother lays her eggs in the nests of other birds.
