  4. Yes, those are Cliff Swallow nests. Barn Swallows have open cup nests that don't attach to anything at the top, and are typically built on top of a ledge. Cliff Swallows are the only swallows we have that have those suspended nests with chimney openings.

  8. Agree with Chipping. It's tough to tell, but I was thinking maybe Least since it looks pretty compact overall and has short primary projection. Coloring seems to fit for Least as well, IMO. Hard to see the eyering well with just this pic.

  14. @Bird Observer, nice photo of a good bird. FYI, it will help with future IDs if you'll include the location where you saw the bird.

  18. Some photos from May. I especially like Red-winged Blackbirds, since they are so obvious and easy to identify. Red-winged Blackbird (female). A Plumbeous Vireo (?). Some sort of puffy bird ball. (A kind of sparrow?) Lots of Red-winged Blackbirds were trying to advertise for themselves. I love the colors on the Red-winged Blackbirds.

  20. We have a pair of painted buntings frequent our feeders for four years but the male is very bashful and hard to get pictures of. This morning was bright and calm and the male was unusually cooperative. Here is my best picture of the day.
