  11. From what I can see they're all Swainson's Hawks. The close-up photo looks like a young male with the lightish brown colors and incomplete bib. These guys are awesome during migration ?

  12. taken this morning (which is supposed to be early for yellow-bellied here)

  13. With that short primary projection, I’m thinking maybe Least here. It’s not Yellow-bellied. Interestingly, a lot of empids show yellow in the belly, so Yellow-bellied Flycatcher can be a misleading name. What to look for in YB is a lot of yellow in the throat that contrasts very little belly.

  15. Looks good for Least. Pretty compact shape/structure overall and I'm seeing yellow on the bill.

  16. It's a Manx -- Audubon's have dark undertail coverts and a bit of white in front of the eye. They're almost unheard of in cold water.

  17. @MerMaeve that's awesome! Watched Mission Impossible: Fallout the other day. It was really good!

  18. I agree with Common Yellowthroat. Definitely not an oriole.

  19. Okay, why? What characteristics of an Oriole do you see? What species of oriole? My oriole ID skills aren't very good and I could use some pointers.

  20. All from this morning. Sandpipers are from the romantic Pojoaque Septage Ponds, Santa Fe Co., New Mexico. You're not allowed to get close to the ponds. 1. Baird's? 2. Least? With Killdeer for scale: 3. What do you hear on this that's not a Yellow-breasted Chat (or a motor)? Is there a Western Tanager in there? From an area with small artificial pools, thickets, and cottonwoods, Española, N. M. https://clyp.it/izxslphu

  24. I agree with Common Yellowthroat -- a Yellow Warbler would have bright yellow in the tail feathers, while any of our orioles should show wing bars and either yellow undertail coverts or some sort of face pattern (or both).
