  8. 1 -- Juv Red Knot -- the fine black subterminal band inside a white terminal band on the scapulars and wing coverts is just about diagnostic for the species and age (and, BTW, visible on the upper bird in the second photo of #3). 2 -- Juv White-rumped -- dark legs, no webbing, pale base to the bill 3 -- Juv Pectoral in first pic 4 -- Semis 5 -- Semi/Western -- White-rumped is notably larger than Semi and its wing tips extend beyond the tail tip (all features presented in field guides) 6 -- Dunlins 7 -- Semis/Westerns

  9. Assuming that all pix are of same individual, Hermit. The very black lateral throat stripes rule out Swainson's and the distinct eye rings rule out Gray-cheeked and Veery.

  10. I would expect wings and tail to be more rusty on a hermit but it could be the lighting. Also, I don't know if any of the other thrushes are still in your area.

  11. We do not get White-crowned Sparrows too often out this east, but even less adults. So it was nice to see this beautiful adult perched right out in the open for me. White-crowned Sparrow by Patrick Felker, on Flickr
