I gave myself a trip to a swamp an hour away and picked up a lifer. I’m so good to me.7 points

I’m a water polo player. Even if I loose a bunch of hair, I’d still have so much on my head that I could fill up 5 bald whatbirders scalps with enough hair for them to have a mullet.7 points

I don't have a favorite. I'm gonna post what I've got. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/398573861 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/398573851 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/398573841 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/3985738917 points

All are Greater. I’ve observed that foraging Greater’s can appear to have a bump at the back of their crown, like this bird. The male has a wide flair to its nail, and the eye positioning is high.7 points

Agreed. Swampies don't have the yellow on the lores like these birds do.4 points

That’s really sharp for a digiscope, nice! My digiscopes are usually barely identifiable trash. Cute bird too4 points

Got the Great-crested Flycatcher! Three other lifers as well today. Had awsome looks at a Reddish egret (less than 10 feet away). Also got Black-vented Shearwater yesterday, which was also a lifer. https://ebird.org/tripreport/216404 points

I'm not dead set on it being a gull, in fact, I'm not really dead set on it being anything, from these photos.3 points

In non-breeding plumage, I'm pretty sure White-faced doesn't have any white near the eyes.3 points

Hmmmm, the impression I'm getting is Sharp-shinned Hawk, but I'm no expert. The brown streaks are pretty coarse, though, and those legs look quite thin, so probably sharpie.3 points

Might I suggest removing some of the blue color cast? I hope you don’t mind.3 points

I’m comfortable with calling the male a Greater. Personally I don’t feel confident about the female with just that angle.3 points

Ravens can always throw you for a loop! I love it when they pop. Here’s a weird recording I got of one: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/285691261 3 seconds in3 points

I sure do! It let's me rate them, so why not? I enjoy it, and hopefully it lets my better photos be seen by more people. (Happy Holidays, everyone!)3 points

The male has clearly been foraging and still has a bump towards the back of it's rather slender head. I'd call that Lesser if I saw it, but I'm far from an expert.3 points

Both look good for Greater (Big black nail on the end of the beak, and head shape)3 points

I rate mine because I want to, and the fact that eBird will show you your best photos by rating as a filter. Plus, if I really feel like I did get a 5-star photo, I want to share it!3 points
