  1. There were at least 2 types of Swallows zooming around a pond and in this picture you can see why.

  4. I agree that this is clearly a joke. I can't find any evidence or reason to think that there are any nefarious intentions here - what would they possibly be? If you don't find it funny move on. I TOTALLY agree that a little bird-related humor (in good taste) is welcome, and not just on April 1. Um... nothing? How would any of this be harmful or offensive? I see no problem with occasional humor as long as it's not offensive. I'm honestly a bit baffled by the intense reaction to this post. I do agree that this isn't an ID request so I've moved it. And if anyone sees this bird, be very careful; it's clearly armed.

  6. I know it doesn’t violate the sub-forum rules, per se, but it does seem to go against the basic tenet of the forum…”Help Me Identify a North American Bird.” While something like this might be in good natured fun on April 1, I just don’t see the point. What’s to prohibit someone from posting an image of a shark with the head of a Bald Eagle, or a Hershey candy bar with the beak of a Red Crossbill? Or other birds with other human parts photoshopped? Honestly, it’s difficult for me to tell if this is true attempt at humor or someone who is simply trolling/spamming the forum. Perhaps a “Funny Photoshopped Images” (or something like what was suggested above by @Jerry Friedman) topic in another sub-forum is more appropriate and this thread can be moved there? I really don’t see it having a place here, IMO.

  12. I think I see enough wing bars to go with Ruby-crowned Kinglet. The fast-moving behavior would support that. But I'll back @Peromyscus's request for a location, please.

  14. I believe this is a joke, not spam. It's a fabricated story, with a fabricated location, and a fabricated photo. I believe it was intended to provide some humor and not intended to offend anyone or disrupt the forum. While I can understand not wanting to turn the ID forum into a comedy theater, I see no harm in adding some humor now and then. Birding doesn't have to be serious ALL the time, and if you're going to post an ID joke, what better place to do it than the ID forum. Just tossing in my two cents worth, which might be over pricing it.

  28. Did I read that right? Did the forum's Class Clown just say that humor didn't belong in the ID forum? I'm sorry, but I don't get the joke here. Personally, I saw no harm in leaving this post where it was originally posted, except for the fact that we kind of took the fun out of it by discussing it's appropriateness. First and foremost, birding should be FUN, and I see no reason why there should be an exception in the ID forum. Just tossing in a few pennies more.

  30. I agree with the others who suggest moving it to a more appropriate forum, probably Captions. I'd like to see this sub-forum remain a resource for requesting and learning IDs. Yes, I've posted 'April Fool' jokes for the last three years. I'm asking those either be moved to the same forum, or deleted. I'll also not post them in the future. Thanks.

  31. We have a thing like this at my work that us supposed to mimic the calls of Peregrine Falcons and prey birds in distress in order to scare away the gulls that show up at lunch time in the winter to eat the food and trash left behind by students. This sounds a lot like one of those to me. It seems too loud and mechanical to be a real bird. Did you see a bird? My guess is that it's some sort of "pest" deterrent. You might want to have a convo with your neighbor.

  38. SOOOO MANY BIRDS!!!!!!! Wish I could have birded longer. 6 or 7 FOY, depending on COTE/FOTE ID conundrum. The birds swarmed in after the rain last night. Rain that created great shorebird landing spots all over the place. Now the birds just need to find them. Trees dripping with birds well past the time of day I would have expected. A Pine Warbler has been serenading me all afternoon in the yard, in between whistling White-throated Sparrows. Birdcast says 350,000 birds crossed over my county last night!! FOY - Sora, Yellow Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, House Wren and Forster's Tern.
