  2. Not the best photo as the bird was somewhat distant, but a 6th state record for CA (5th alive bird) and a first San Francisco County record Red-headed Woodpecker!

  4. It has been a while and I'm trying to get back into it. From some time ago, but this was my first season seeing the Bluethroat with this being my favourite thus far https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/589956521

  5. Yeah, it's a Willet. One of the "Eastern" Willets that look quite different from the "Western" Willets. That may be why it looks different, though I'm not familiar with the migration timing at this location.

  6. 9 minutes and this hadn't been answered! I mean, wedging a word in sideways is usually near impossible on the first post, little lone two of them horizontally with capitalization AND punctuation! 😋

  7. Welp, didn’t get the Cave Swallow, though with the recent storms I’m not too surprised, and this was the earliest record of a basically annual species so I’ll get more chances. However, I did find a Bank Swallow and saw one the resident Neotropic Cormorants and the visiting Roseate Spoonbills! A long, hot, exhausting trip on 2 hrs of sleep, but worth it. https://ebird.org/checklist/S143236225

  14. Yep, Eastern Willet with that gigantic bill. Put it in eBird as an Eastern and you’ll get a free lifer probably within next 5 years.

  17. Yeah, it was a pretty RBSA. Golden hour lighting from the perfect angle helped a ton as well.

  25. Hey, y’all. It’s been a minute and I haven’t been very active, but I figured I’d drop this here in case any of you bird nerds are about this kinda thing. I started ranking the birds on my life list. I try to upload biweekly on YouTube and Instagram. If you guys are interested and want to check it out, I’ll supply info down below. If not, no worries. I’m not doing this for money or anything. Just purely for people to enjoy if they’re into that kinda thing. Peace, y’all. YouTube: Instagram: birding_tier_lists

  26. Wow Chipper, that was a quick and informative response. I have now looked up the cowbird and read of it's antics and believe you have "hit the nail on the head" and I thank you. (I love this forum. I've gotten quick and accurate responses to the 3 questions I have posted in the past year!)

  35. There’s been a pattern of rare birds popping up during the week at a “nearby” WMA. 3 Weeks ago I was able to successfully chase the Mottled Ducks that week. The next week the Anhingas and Neotropics were reported frequently, so I went for them that weekend and got them. Last week was a by week, and now there is a young Cave Swallow and some Spoonbills… hoping the swallow sticks around for this weekend! I’ve been successful so far with the rarities there, but this one will be a challenge, lots of walking, will have to take preventative measures for chiggers and ticks, and be prepared for miles in the heat. Oh, and not enough time to sleep after work. What a fun hobby! 😅

  42. This morning's sunrise was through thick smoke from several large wild fires in Colorado. My local hawk was kind enough to fly across sun for this great photo op. Taken with Nikon P950 in video mode, equivalent 1000m focal length, frames stacked and darkened in Photoshop. This whole event lasted about 1 second. No filter was used. Taken 21 August 2020 from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
