I don't even know which one to pick. I had an amazing time with 10 Short-eared Owls, and this one flew right at and over me.18 points

We hardly ever have Short-eared Owls around here. I've seen them for exactly 3 seconds in total ever, and with no pics. Had 10 and couldn't have asked for better looks.13 points

Got word of this bird when I was out of town for Thanksgiving. I prayed to the bird gods for it to stay put and survive for the next three days until I was back in town. I went down this morning before class and spotted him just after sunrise! Such a cute little guy! And boy did he put on a show! Diving for food within 10 feet of us in clear water mere feet from the shoreline, allowing us to see them hunt underwater! Lifer #393!!! A bunch of entries from yesterday: 1 - Snow Goose. This was one of those exciting birding moments. This was one of these guided field trips with a caravan of vehicles birding by car and communicating via walkie talkies. When the field guide decides to, we all get out around. Whenever I'm not 100% certain of what type of bird I'm looking at, I always take photos. While driving, I saw a flock of white birds approaching that I didn't recognize. I didn't ask the driver to stop but managed to get my camera out the window at an uncomfortable angle and was able to get ID shots. When I looked at my viewfinder, I had no idea what kind of birds they were. I'd never seen Snow Geese, whether in-person, or in any photographs, or on the internet or TV. We shortly got out of our cars, and I showed the birds to the field guide for an ID. He replied, "Holy s***, those are Snow Geese." https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/611657415 Tropical Kingbird: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/611657502 Vermilion Flycatcher: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/611657478 The entrance/exit borders a different county. The trip organizer wanted the group to be recognized in the other county, so when we were about to leave and she saw the Tropical Kingbird had crossed the border, she asked the guide to start a new checklist: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/6116575498 points

I agree with both IDs. Checking ebird it looks like Long-tailed duck has been seen in many different Texas locations recently.8 points

My impression is Cooper's. The head looks fairly flat, the eye is well forward, and what we can see of the nape is pale gray. It's puffed up a bit so the head looks smaller than it is. But it's perfectly fine to leave it as Sharp-shinned/Cooper's. I refuse to look at Facebook birding groups for this reason. Makes me tense up just thinking about it.7 points
