E-Bird took a look and they feel it's an Ash-Throated.

Also, something about the way the crest tilts and the richer red contrast in the wings says Great-Crested to me
However, I’m not 100% positive so probably best to wait for one of the real experts chime in. ☺️
You're definitely right about the yellow- It was really bright in person - much brighter than it appears in the photo - Thanks for the reply!

I think that picture is mislabeled. All the pictures of North American mesquites I can find have long clusters of pale flowers.
I don't know a thing about plants, but the photo and the bird is from South Padre Island. took it myself a few days ago.

Posted on another site yesterday and someone thought it was a green winged teal hen.
