Flycatcher/Wood Peewee?
dsankey replied to dsankey's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Thanks, all! It was catching some light from the rising sun, probably explains the warm color. Still, the first time I've seen one in my home city (at a fairly small city park). -
Spotted yesterday morning (May 24th) in Jersey City, NJ in fairly low light. It's a little tough to see wing/tail length at this angle. I don't think I see an eyering.

Female Blackpoll Warbler?

Thanks for confirming! -
Seen yesterday morning (May 24) in Jersey City, NJ, not giving very good looks. Apologies for the photo quality. Female Blackpoll was my best guess — there's a fair amount of yellow showing, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks, all! Really cute — and the first time I've seen one here in my city.

Do I have this right as a Field Sparrow? Seen in Jersey City, NJ on April 24, briefly, among numerous chipping and house sparrows. Thanks in advance.

Jersey City, NJ on Jan 26 in the morning, foraging in dense brush, mostly, and acting quite shy. My instinct is Winter vs. House based on size and behavior.

Bit difficult to see the face here — seen yesterday, Dec 4, in Jersey City, NJ by the Hudson River. I thought this was song, but the thinness of chest streaks made me rethink. Thanks!

Great-horned Owl being mobbed?
dsankey replied to dsankey's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Thank you! -
Do I have that right? I caught only a passing glance, and assumed hawk at first, but was able to snap these less-than-perfect shots... mobbed by crows, and a Sharp-shinned Hawk, I think. Earlier today on the north shore of Long Island, New York. Thanks in advance.

Ha! Thanks

Southern coast of Long Island, NY yesterday — I know there're others in the area, but wasn't sure if I found one hiding in this shrub.

Ah, thanks. That makes more sense. Apparent lack of crest in the blurry photo had me confused.

Thanks!

Seen in Coastal New Hampshire — South of Portsmouth — 8 days ago. Between a salt marsh and the beach.
