Me too! I didn’t want to say it but glad to hear someone else thought the same thing. -

Shorebird. Gulf County, Florida. July 2021

That was my first impression also. But I'm questioning myself. Something just seems "off" about the bill and the posture for Wilson's Plover to me. I considered Spotted Sandpiper, but that doesn't seem right either. -

Merlin is saying Iceland or Glaucous-winged. I just don't know how to distinguish them. -

South Florida Black Bird ID needed
cvanbosk replied to dragon49's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Dragon49 Listen to some recordings of the vocalizations of both types of crows. They are VERY different and with just a bit of experience, they are EASY to tell apart. With that, you will quickly get TWO new birds on your life list! Good luck! -
My first thought was Ruddy too.

Teal question. Brevard Co. FL.
cvanbosk replied to cvanbosk's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
You and me both. The bill just looks large and "cinnamon-y" to me. (the bird on the left). -
Saw these two birds on Jan 1 at Merritt Island NWR. There have been reports of a Cinnamon X Blue Wing Teal hybrid. Could this be what the bird on the right is? And, can anything be said conclusively about the bird on the left?

Shorebird St Augustine FL today
cvanbosk replied to cvanbosk's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Thanks guys. Seemed too big for a dunlin, and wrong bill for a red knot. Dowitcher seems likely even though I’ve never seen one along this beach before. -

It's the yellow on the SIDES of the tail that is the dead giveaway for American Redstart. -

I know I should have checked with you guys before posting all over Facebook that I have Purple Finches in my backyard. But here in North Florida, that's kind of a big deal. So, please tell me these are Purple Finches.
