I live in the Northeast, in West Virginia. Last night, around 3:30AM, I heard an animal (I'm assuming it was a bird) making the strangest sound I've ever heard, something I've never heard before in over 21 years living here. I can't even begin to explain the sound, except that it sounded more like something you would hear in the Amazon than in West Virginia, so I"m attaching a link to the audio recording I made of it.
Whatever was making the sound, there was one very near where I was standing recording from, and there were several others at various distances a little further away, all of them seemingly responding to each other, and occasionally they would all sort of crescendo in this wild cacophony that was both amusing and somewhat horrifying!
I really hope someone here can identify this for me, because I haven't been able to get the utter strangeness of it out of my head all day. I've always considered myself quite familiar with the fauna around here, but this just has me baffled. And thanks in advance!
