    I'm easily 90 miles away from the nearest water. I've never seen one in this area. Maybe he just wanted to check out the smorgasbord in the desert. So surprised to see him this morning. Thank you!

    California, Mojave Desert (high), Oct 3rd I have a red tailed hawk that visits frequently. This bird was quite a bit larger than that. Thanks for your knowledge, Susan

    I think it's a Costa's hummingbird. I took a similar picture a couple weeks ago and posted it here to get help with the id.
