  1. Last week in southwestern Missouri. Can anyone ID these shorebirds from the fuzzy pictures. One picture has a Killdeer and a beer can for scale. I think these are the same birds in both pictures. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ya3wwt0nqt9kpwm/AABQ4HWBjLFyL2zYqrOQqAGVa?dl=0
  2. Today in southwestern Missouri. Is this oddly proportioned bird a Brown Thrasher with its head pulled way in and its tail badly worn? Merlin thinks it is a Sage Thrasher but that would be way out of range, and the bill isn't right. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5xt45wappu3kuep/AADnIHDbWBDpTVke31Jk6ftWa?dl=0
  3. Are these juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons? They were not skittish and did not move a muscle as loud vehicles drove past them on a graveled road. Today in SW Missouri. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/lmd9llzftrn2gh5/WHATBIRD 2021-10-12 8-23-56 AM - 0221.JPG?dl=0
  4. Please help me ID this tern? I can go about three ways with it. I saw it today in southwestern Missouri. Thanks. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ljw1yq7x09l41p5/AAA-ce_nwMiy0VaMgkumk46Pa?dl=0
  5. Is this a Philadelphia Vireo? I'm having trouble deciding, with such awkward angles. Today in SW Missouri. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5ow4586bksi3fap/AABm3a4bVx6YtCvMA3WH32V4a?dl=0
  6. Is this a Clay-colored Sparrow? I have never seen one, but they have been reported in my area during migration. Southwest Missouri last week. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wkbbmuiqcykgyo0/AABTMtJjBbpVz7GMjL-G-Fxta?dl=0
  7. I know next to nothing about shorebird ID and need help with these. My guess is some kind of sandpiper--although American Golden-plovers have been observed in the general area. Please ID and explain why. Southwest Missouri today, with numerous yellow-legs in a mud puddle in a farm field. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/nbtplqkvlawcau2/PLOVER-SANDPIPER BIRD 2021-04-13 4-31-18 PM_2.JPG?dl=0
  8. This looks like an Eared Grebe to me, but Horned would be more expected--yesterday in Southwest Missouri. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnc6zri22rmfwt5/2020-12-31 7-59-26 AM - 0004CRP-dn-dn1.jpg?dl=0
  9. Please confirm Sharpie - yesterday in SW Missouri. It looked very small as it flew to the perch. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/bd2dm5fxw2gamv0/HAWK 2020-11-26.jpg?dl=0
  10. Are the bedraggled feathers a brood patch or just normal wear? Some online sources say that up to 25% of males sit on the eggs. SW Missouri in July. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/oczryyqksimqjni/NORTHERN BOBWHITE QUAIL BIRD WKT__2020-07-05 8-30-42 AM_3.jpg?dl=0
  11. I was focused on taking pictures of distant ducks. When I got the shots on the computer I noticed this way out-of-focus white bird in the center of this shot. Could the white bird be a Horned Grebe? Yesterday in SW Missouri. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/e8v024myvfnr0m2/WHATBIRD 2020-10-29 17-11-03_1.JPG?dl=0
  12. I glimpsed this bird far across a lake and casually called it a Pied-billed Grebe, but when I blew up the photo, it didn't look right to me--although I still think it is some kind of Grebe. Southwest Missouri this week. Thanks https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwzmohcf31ykx6g/WHATBIRD 2020-10-24 10-04-22.JPG?dl=0
  13. Is this some variant of a Green-winged Teal? Today in SW Missouri. Thanks. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8jy3j3b86i9dky0/WHATBIRD DUCK 2020-10-18 07-48-23.jpg?dl=0
