This wasn't even the bird I was trying to photograph... but I noticed it in the edge of the frame of a photo from earlier today. I think maybe it is a waxwing? But I'm not sure. Could use some help. And if it is a waxwing, is it Cedar? Seems too brown to be Bohemian. This is in Coos County, north slope of the White Mountains in northern New Hampshire.
Thank you very much. I've heard them many times but have never seen one out in the open. They are usually invisible inside the canopy around our house. But this one was utterly silent. Never sang a single note.
Seen midafternoon 5 June 2019 at Moosehorn Reserve in northeastern Maine, in mature mixed hardwoods forest. 40 to 50 feet up in open branches of mature tree, feeding on insects and hopping branch to branch. Sorry for low quality images... no wifi access here so must use cell to photograph LCD of real camera. Grayish crown, white eyebrow, black eyestripe, olivaceous-rufous wings and back (from what I could see from the ground) and pale breast. Black legs, bill pale. Is this a red-eyed vireo?
