  1. It must be the Northern Flicker! It didn't have red on the crest of the head, only the neck. Thank you so much! I have been wondering all day!
  2. In Maryland- saw a bird, the size of a large pigeon, barred / stripped dark grey/black and white, lighter underbelly, longer thin beak, but it had a distinct bright red nape of the neck and down a little between its shoulder blades. It was packing into the grass at the edge of a woods. Thoughts? I went through I Bird Pro twice and one other site to see if I could find it. I didn't move fast enough to catch a photo. -Thanks Shannon
