Hi all,

Can someone please help me ID this bird?  

I hiked today in Linville Gorge in the mountains of Western North Carolina and saw a number of these beautiful yellow birds.   I am thinking Yellow Warbler, but am not seeing the red lines underneath.   I see a lot of people posting photos of Protonotary Warblers from Western NC but am thinking the black lines underneath are not indicative.   The longshot is the Paririe Warbler.   I apologize my camera is not the greatest but would really be very grateful for some expert help.

In addition to these beauties, I saw a lot of Black and White Warblers and some Dark-Eyed Juncos too.

Hi everyone,

I stopped in Bahia Honda State Park in the lower Florida Keys the other day on my way to Key West and found a few birds willing to pose for my camera.   The American Kestral and Zenaida Dove were easy to identify, but how about the little ham in the last three photos who kept darting in and around the limestone rocks?   He or she was kind enough to pose for me from three sides, and definitely has a yellow rear-end...so I am thinking Yellow-Rumped Warbler?   I would appreciate any help confirming.

Hi all,

I took advantage of a day off work this and 70 degree December weather to see what birds I could find along a greenway in Charlotte, NC that goes through wooded and marshy areas.   Out and about this morning were Carolina Wrens, Northern Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, Eastern Bluebirds, Chipping Sparrows, Red-Headed Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, and a Blue Heron.

New to my list are the two birds in the photos below.  I have the black and white one (two photos) pegged as a Black-and-White Warbler.  Can someone please confirm or suggest otherwise?

 The other one (three photos) I am not so sure about.   He or she was pale olive / lime sorbet-colored underneath.   I am thinking maybe Pine Warbler, but would appreciate so direction on this one.

Hi all,

I saw this hawk perched on a branch about 7 feet off the ground along a greenway in Charlotte, NC today.  I see them flying around all the time but have never seen one so close to the ground, or who would sit still and pose for a photo.   I am thinking this handsome bird is a Red-Shouldered Hawk based on my book, but I would appreciate opinion if this community of experts.

Hi all,

I did a wonderful 5-mile hike in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area in Tucson, AZ on Monday.   I am from North Carolina, and I learned that desert birds move fast !   They can be difficult to photgraph, but are enjoyable to watch as always.

Can someone kindly help me with the small gray bird (third photo)?   I am down to a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, a Black-Capped Gnatcatcher, or Dark-Eyed Junco.  I would really appreciate any help.

Also attached for your viewing are photos I took of a Greater Roadrunner, a Gambel's Quail, and Phainopepla (how beautiful!)

Hi all,  

Can anyone please help me identify this bird?  I saw it today in a marshy area in a park in Charlotte, NC.  It is mostly black with some white in the wings and a white head, and red / orange color around the eyes.   I am thinking Muscovy Duck but the photos I have found online seem to vary quite a bit.  Sorry the photos aren’t the best.  Thanks in advance for any help !

Hi everyone,

I had a nice visit to the Savannah National Wildlife Reserve in South Carolina the other day and saw and identified swallow-tailed kites, blue herons, common gallinules, red-winged blackbirds, egrets, and roseate spoonbills.   I photographed two birds for which I need help identifying.   I am thinking the black and brown one is a glossy ibis and the all-black one is a comorant of some kind.   I am pretty new at this hobby and would greatly appreciate some expert opinions.
