    Hey, Charlie, i did grow up at a home where they kept birds in captivity. Right now, i am sort of the foster parent to birds who perch on my balcony. I leave them treats and water there and have also made a comfy space for them. So perhaps parent might be more sentimental than reality

    This thread is quite terrific. I am a bird parent but overy new to birding as an active engagement.These really help me find new readings to prepare. I have been on and off reading The Birder's Handbook- which a friend had suggested to be good for a novice like me. Maybe some of you might find it useful too.

    I have not ever been quite good at differentiating between these two with my naked eyes esp when they are soaring.

    This causes quite a bit of grief. I suppose the regulations have to be careful while framing the rules but this still is quite saddening. Thank you for sharing @jefferson
