  1. I have been playing with BirdNet app to learn how to recognize songs and calls, and for the most part it makes a decent job. Obviously, it is highly dependent on the quality of the recording and it handles some groups of birds better than others, but it is much better than any others that I've tried. 

    This morning it gave me an "almost certain" and "highly likely" for an Alder and yellow-bellied flycatchers respectively in two different recordings. I would like to get confirmation so I learn how much to trust the app when it comes to flycatchers.

  3. I took that picture yesterday in Galveston, TX. I initially thought it was a Herring but that head looks way too white to me and I don't see enough contrast between the mantle and the underparts to call it a lesser black-backed (bill color does not seems quite right either). Always a difficult group for me and I would love to hear more opinions.
