  1. Seen today in central NC. It was a good deal smaller than the 2 Red-tailed Hawks it was soaring with, so I thought Cooper's or Sharp-shinned, but neither of those look right. Any help identifying this bird would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/370769601
  2. Ruby-throated Hummingbird in my backyard from a couple days ago. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/367531571?_gl=1*icg1qp*_ga*MTg4OTMyOTExNy4xNTk1NDM5MTU5*_ga_QR4NVXZ8BM*MTYzMTA5ODY0Mi42MS4wLjE2MzEwOTg2NDIuNjA.#_ga=2.238900996.561626439.1629750371-1889329117.1595439159
  3. I'm in Wake, North Carolina. I have all 3 of those birds on my life list, it's just that I'm not going to the beach anytime soon.
  4. The easiest one I could think of was a combination of Bonaparte's Gull, Wilson's Plover, and Forster's Tern. Now I just have to find a way to teleport to the beach.
  5. Couldn't decide between these two. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/366534511 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/366534861
  6. I was going through some older pictures and I found this one of a Gray Catbird from a couple months ago. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/365590291
  7. This is my full trip report of my 3 week trip in Europe a couple weeks back that will be broken into a couple posts over the next couple days. My dad and I flew into Frankfurt Airport on July 29th and boarded a train heading to Halle am Salle to visit my grandparents that live there. On the train ride there, I got 4 lifers, Eurasian Magpie, White Stork, Great Cormorant, and Common Swift. I missed out on a couple of lifers because the train was going too fast for me to get an ID. We arrived at our destination and were greeted by our family. We headed to our hotel room where we unpacked before we headed to the apartment where my grandparents lived. On the short 10 minute walk, I was able to pick up Common Wood-Pigeon and Great Tit as 2 more lifers. We had dinner there, before heading back to the hotel and going to bed. The next morning, we walked over to the apartment to have breakfast, and I spotted 3 Red Kites sailing above us, another lifer. After breakfast, we headed to the local zoo where I saw White Wagtail, Eurasian Blackbird, Carrion Crow, Eurasian Kestrel, and Gray Heron (all lifers) as well as a lot of really cool zoo animals. We headed back to the apartment afterwards, where we relaxed until dinner, and then we went to bed. The following day, we went on an hour long river cruise on the Salle. Afterwards, we walked through a park for another hour and half and then back to the hotel. On this excursion, I picked up Common Chaffinch, Spotted Flycatcher, Gray Wagtail, Eurasian Blue Tit, Common Buzzard, and Common Sandpiper. In the evening, we went to a local lake and I saw an Eurasian Coot, lifer #19 of the trip. The next morning, me, my dad, my mom, and my brother took a train to Passau, a city in Southeast Bavaria where my other grandma lives near. All in all, Halle was a very nice place and it was awesome to see my grandparents after about 2 years of not seeing them.
  8. The first is a juvenile Least Tern with the yellow legs and barring on the back. Pass on 2, 3, 4,. 5 and 6 are Royal Terns, not sure on the age though.
  9. Thank you so much! I had so much trouble identifying Bird vs. Bird, but now I can all thanks to this wonderful and helpful guide!
  10. I went through the pictures of my trip in Europe, and found these 3 that I'm not quite sure on. They were all seen within the last 4 days. I believe the first is a Eurasian Wigeon but I would like confirmation. The second might be a Common Nightingale, but I'm not sure, and the third I believe it is a pipit sp. but would like to know which one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/362584971 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/362585001 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/362584631
  11. Your life list, your rules. I personally count heard only birds, but it's up to you to decide what you want to do.
  12. @Peromyscus I meant it as a joke. Everyone else was confirming it, so I thought it was funny to change it up a little. I agree that is most definitely a Black-crowned Night-Heron.
  13. All were seen yesterday in the northern coastal region of France. The first I can't decide Black or Bar-tailed Godwit. The second I'm pretty sure is a species of warbler, and the last one I have no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/361328131 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/361327931 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/361327921 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/361328021

  17. All were seen today in south-east Bavaria in Germany. The first one I would like confirmation for Eurasian Sparrowhawk. The second I feel like should be obvious with the yellow head but I can't find anything. For the third one I have no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/358921971 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/358921871 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/358921841

  20. All were seen today in east Germany near Leipzig and Halle am Salle. The first one is probably a Mallard but I would like to make sure. The second I can't decide between Herring or Yellow-legged Gull, the third I need confirmation on Eurasian Marsh-Harrier, the fourth I have it narrowed down to a species of Flycatcher, and the fifth I have no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357982221 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357981741 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357981961 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357982151 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357982451
  21. Both were seen today in east Germany near Leipzig and Halle am Salle. Any help with identifying them would be greatly appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357805921 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/357805961
