  5. Welcome to Whatbird, @ornitomania. You've got some very nice video there. ?
  6. BRDL 160 ???? ???? ???? ???? I had opened my bird index but didn't use it. I tried to use it, but once I considered the possibilities for a last letter, I didn't need the list.

  9. Welcome to Whatbird, @Molgula. You have photos of one of the most commonly confused birds on the forums, the Female Red-winged Blackbird. While the males are usually easy to ID, their Female counterparts are often confused for Sparrows because they look so different than the males.

  12. I just tried two Unknown audios by two different members in the ID forum, @Charlie Spencer and my speaker is on by default in both, perhaps yours is defaulted to mute and you need to click the speaker icon to unmute it.
  13. I typically don't click on audio clips. I have a hard time associating song to artist whether it comes from a familiar bird or familiar musical band so I don't bother trying. I have found that some video clips load with the sound muted by default and you need to click the little speaker icon within the video to turn the sound on. That's the only trick, if you can call it that, that I know of regarding audio. While I have only noticed it in videos, I haven't clicked enough audio links to know if that's a possibility.
  14. I didn't grab the camera quick enough to get a shot of the female showing her readiness to mate with her head down and tail spread out on the ground before the male was on top of her. They adjusted their position a few times, in relation to both the camera and each other. After dismounting the female, the male stood up tall looking quite proud of himself. After a short break, approximately 20 seconds short, they coupled again and provided a third angle of view. The dismount was followed by the male strutting away a bit before flying off, followed shortly afterwards by the female.

  16. Respectfully, I'd like to point out to @AESthat size is one of the hardest things to judge in the field, and sometimes hard to judge in photos too. Don't get discouraged if you're repeatedly reminded of that fact on the forums. Size is easy to misjudge and it happens to ALL of us, and I suspect that it's because it has happened to ALL of us, that many of us will repeatedly emphasize the difficulty of estimating a bird's size. Don't take it personally or get discouraged if people point out that, contrary to popular belief, size DOES matter, but it's hard to judge. ? Welcome to the forums AES. ?
  17. I doubt that the flash reached the bird, but @IKLland is right about flash affecting the colors in a flash fired photo. I can't see it, but the colors could be affected even if the flash doesn't reach its target simply because the camera would change the white balance because it thinks the target is going to be illuminate with artificial flash, not the natural light of the sun. Like I said, I can't see the weird colors, but I won't deny the possibility is there for the camera to skew the colors with the wrong white balance because of the flash.
  18. I'm curious how everyone is coping with the seed shortage, or if it's affecting anyone else yet. We usually buy 2 40 pound bags of Black Oiled Sunflower Seeds at a time, which I am getting very low on. Our supply has been hit and miss for a long while now, but there's been getting more and more misses between hits lately and it's looking like I might run out for a while. Instead of rationing seed by not always filling all of the feeders or by waiting until the last feeder is near empty before refilling any of them, it looks like I might have to leave most, or all, of the feeders empty for a few days if I want to have any seed for the long weekend. *gulp* Anyone else having similar problems getting BOSS and how do you cope with the shortage?
