  1. White-breasted Nuthatches are always fun to watch/photograph, even if they are always in the same position.

  3. I think the rule is, no consecutive guesses. Posting two, or more, consecutive/simultaneous guesses reduces everyone else's chances. I think the idea is for us to let someone else have a turn before we start taking extra turns. I'm no lawyer, nor was I involved in making the rules, so don't sue me for not backing up my thinking with actual posts.

  5. Never mind, I must have missed Pelecaniformes when I went through the list.
  6. Reading between the lines can be challenging, reading between the words can just as challenging. Any chance you meant, 'I'd really prefer it wasn't used for quizzes'?

  9. Wow, those ears really are short, aren't they? It's a wonder that they can hear anything at all with ears that tiny.
  10. Welcome to Whatbird @pdw. For future reference, it's quicker, for both you and the viewer, if you limit your post to four or five photos of different angles and then offer extra photos if they are needed. Also, photo storage is limited here so you don't want to take too big of a bite out of that upload limit when you post.
  11. I tend to lean towards @DLecy's line of thought, audio clips don't really fit the theme of "Photo Sharing and Discussion". I see no reason why less photos of rare birds would be posted here if audio files were posted elsewhere. I also see no reason to move this thread to the General Birding section in an attempt to combine two different topics into one category. It's not like this is the Rare Bird Alert thread where photos and audio would be welcome, it's the Photo Sharing and Discussion thread for Rare Birds.
  12. Another thought I just had that may or may not work, is uploading your profile pic from a third party site just like you upload other photos from Macaulay. Just a suggestion that is easier for you to check out, easier for me that is.
  13. I should have included that info in my first post, but better late than never. "You have used 90.7 MB of your 976.56 MB attachment limit."
  14. I am trying to gauge the attachment limit but I can't compare my use of a third party hosting site to that of others that routinely upload directly to the Whatbird. Truth be told, I can't view others usage stats and that's kind of what I am looking for. Because many of my photos are hosted on Flickr, I only have 319 attachments uploaded using 9% of my total upload limit. I suspect that there are some that run the risk of reaching the upload limit before realizing it, but I have no idea how/if that applies to the average uploader. So, if you don't mind, please click on your name in the top right corner, click 'My Attachments', and share your upload info here. If nothing else, it might encourage others to use a third party hosting site before they reach their limit.
  15. No, I don't. I can understand why the ability to delete photos isn't an option though. Imagine the number of threads there'd be without photos if everyone started deleting old photos to make room for new ones. The ID forum, and others, would be full of posts saying, "Where's the photo?" Since deleting photos doesn't appear to be an option, perhaps choosing a profile photo from one that's already been uploaded is a different option for @IKLland to consider.... After checking that possibility, it appears that the only way to change your profile pick is to remove it and upload a new photo. I am curious if you can upload a previously uploaded photo as profile photo though. If the system recognizes the photo as a duplicate, it might allow the photo to be uploaded as profile pic without actually uploading it. Obviously I have no clue what I am talking about and am just grasping at straws. Creating a second account is another way around the attachment limit issue though, or using an already created second account.

  17. I'm confused. Wouldn't deleting a photo or two reduce your attachment limit and free up space for a new photo?

  19. Welcome to Whatbird, @trenhes. I agree with American Bittern. The black patch down the neck that you mentioned applies only to the adults, juveniles have browner streaks.
  20. >The 'position' I referred to was the horizontal perching that @Kevin mentioned, the 'location' was referring to the branch that it's perched on.<
  21. What???? I didn't say anything.
