  1. BRDL 68 佞佞甽 佞佞佞 I solved the puzzle without a list but needed the list to realize I'd never heard of this bird.

  3. I didn't use a list this morning, or much thought. I was just throwing letters together to see what might make a code for my third guess. After I solved the puzzle I still needed to solve the riddle of what bird it was, so I guess I did need the list after all. BRDL 66 佞佞佞

  5. Thanks @Charlie Spencer, I hadn't considered battery life and how the effects of leaving wifi turned on might affect it. Battery life on the new camera drains quickly already so I'll have to take that into consideration too. Looks like formatting the memory card and charging the battery might become near daily events. That's IF I can figure out how my new toy works so that I can actually have fun playing with it. Right now, the significant differences between this camera and my previous cameras means I am spending more time learning how to do things, than I am taking photos.
  6. Sure enough, a lesson learned the hard way. 對 I got my new lens yesterday to go with the new camera I got last week. I had already formatted my newest memory card in the camera while waiting for the lens to arrive. Note that I said newest card and not a new card. So the lens arrives, I attach it to the camera and take a few test shots of the cat and dog and assorted indoor targets. All of a sudden I see the dreaded warning that the camera can't read the memory card. I'm like, NO, this can't be happening. I take a few pictures and view them on the camera and wonder what's going on, is the card not really working or is the camera warning an error in the new camera. I get the warning message again and then I turned the camera off and swap my newest card for the next newest card, now we're good to go. Whew, that was a close one. As it turns out, the little tab for the read/write security option was so loose that it will no longer stay in position. I should point out that I never use this tab but I have had it shift position when sliding the card in and out on occasion, I never considered the possibility that it might start shifting on its own one day. Guess I will be changing my ways after all and learning how to transfer files over wifi, and buying some NEW SD cards to leave IN the camera.
  7. Cool reflection. The reflection looks more like a Loon than a Goose to me, right down to the lump on/under it's back that almost looks like a baby loon hitching a ride.
  8. For what it's worth, IF I was to keep a list and these photos were all I had go on because my view in the field was no better, I'd probably list them favouring the help of @Charlie Spencer's ID.
  9. Are you comfortable with your id? After all it's your list and you are the only one that needs to approve it. I don't keep ANY lists but if I did, I'd be hesitant to list birds that I wasn't sure about, especially if I still wasn't sure after asking for help with the ID. That's just my spin on a list that I don't keep though, this is your list and you have to decide what goes on it.
  10. BRDL 64 甽 佞佞 佞佞佞 I wasn't even sure of the spelling of the bird for my second guess, but I got the code right which was enough of a hint for me to solve the puzzle in three guesses today without checking a list.
  11. I also wish you could edit your post without a time limit. I'm not always quick enough to notice when I have been too loose with my O's.
  12. It took me seven guesses this morning. I really wish you could copy your stats when you loose. You should be able to share your misery when get that close and still miss the mark.
  13. Is there a need to delete the files if you're going to format the card, or would deleting the files be redundant when formatting?
  14. Hmmm, not sure if I should I point out the edits in my post that @Charlie Spencer was too quick with the quote button to notice.
  15. Just ignore what I said, @chipperatl, Charlie explains it much better than I tried to. Just don't tell him I said so.
  16. I don't really know what I am talking about, as I've proven all too often, but I think formatting removes everything on the card and then leaves a file behind telling the card how to communicate with the camera. Erase removes the photos but doesn't set up any kind of new communication in the process. That's just my spin on it and remember, I don't know what I am talking about.
  17. For me it's easier to take the memory card out of the camera while it's still on the tripod instead of taking the camera off the tripod and then trying to find enough room on the coffee table for the camera and lens to sit beside the laptop. This might be one of those times where size does matter. *resists the childish urge in me to say mine is bigger than your's is*
  18. I always thought it was for faster transfer speeds but I don't know if that's actually the case, or if it makes any significant difference.
  19. To my eye, what might be interpreted as the belly of the bird in the second photo goes way too far past the belly to actually be the belly itself. I thought it might be the bird's wing, perhaps splayed out in a protective fashion, but it could just as easily be something in front of the belly, but I don't think it's the belly. Personally, I see no reason why I'd question someone who had suggested that these photos go along with the experience they had. Yeah, the bird looks different in both photos but I see nothing fake looking in either. The lighting, posture, and positioning can all explain why the bird looks different in the two photos, when you add in camera quality that might not handle white balance too well, different coloured birds wouldn't surprise me. Sometimes it's better not to, thinking can lead to headaches just like these.
