Coopers Hawk?
lonestranger replied to VikingVagabond's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
I'm going to throw out a guess in favor of Sharp-shinned. That's strictly a guess based on what looks like a really small beak, and wings being pushed forward. I will add that I never put faith in wing position, but i think it's still an ID feature that might apply here. Wait for more experienced feedback. -
Hammock Coast Birding Festival. Georgetown, SC. Feb 17-19

Your date in the title confused me @Charlie Spencer. I was wondering why you'd be canceling your plans based on a ten day forecast, but I see from the link that it's actually this weekend not the 17th-18th. It's a good thing you didn't make your plans based on the date in the title. I can just imagine your confusion on the 17th if you were as confused as I am. 🤪 -
Quoting @aveschapinas, "Yes, turning your phone to landscape position will often load the computer version of a website instead of the mobile version; it works on a lot of sites." It doesn't display the whole computer version of my text/edit box, but it does give me 9 of the 16 editing options that the computer version has, which is better than the 6 options I had with my phone held vertically. It would have been nice if those 3 extra options included tools for changing my font colour or size, but at least I can find the quote feature that is being talked about now. 👍

American Pipit?
lonestranger replied to Charlie Spencer's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
No @Kevin, I did not get a notification when you tagged me in the quote. It looks like a tag, but I wasn't tagged. -
I admit to being a little slow when it comes to using my phone on the internet, but I'll share something I just discovered, something that many people already know, but it might help someone as unaware as I was. Flipping your phone horizontally displays things that are hidden when your phone is held vertically, such as the quotation " icon needed to create a quote box. At least that's how my phone works. I seldom flip my phone, but when I did I found some extras. Try it, if you haven't already.

American Pipit?

@Kevin's method of including the tag in the quote works, too. Provided the tag wasn't part of the copied/pasted quote, as was the case in @Liam's example quote. -

Your workaround doesn't show us who's comment you have quoted though, nor does it notify the person quoted. That same copy and paste after a quick tag works just as easy. Quoting @Liam "One workaround for quotes is copying the text, hitting "Quote" in the format tab of the text box (the quotations icon next to the link icon), and pasting the copied text." -

I can think of a lot of things I wouldn't do for yak fat @Charlie Spencer, and being your sherpa is right at the top of my list. If you really want someone to carry your scope for you, just ship it up here and I'll take it everywhere I go so it never has to feel neglected again. 😁 -

American Pipit?
lonestranger replied to Charlie Spencer's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
You'll have to start traveling with ALL your birding gear, ALL the time now @Charlie Spencer. Binoculars in the glove box are great to have, until you realize that the scope you actually need is feeling neglected because it got left at home. 'Don't leave home without it', applies to a lot more than just credit cards, especially when there's a chance of birding. 😉 -
BRDL 380 🥚🥚🥚🥚 🥚🥚🥚🥚 🥚🪶🥚🥚 🪶🥚🐦🥚 🪶🐦🐦🥚 🐦🐦🐦🐦 I failed yesterday's puzzle and forgot to post the results of a few previous games in a timely fashion. If I don't post the results right away, the game reloads when I revisit that tab and my results get swept away. Oh well. 🤷🏼♂️

I can understand your confusion but it’s not @Charlie Spencer's style to wish that someone be plagued with good/rare birds. At least not without adding some extra nonsense about obstructed views or the camera failing while they try to take selfies of the birds landing on their head. 😆

The "Other" things you see when Birding
lonestranger replied to MacMe's topic in Photo Sharing and Discussion
Those pre-sunrise colours are often better than the actual sunrise colours, in my opinion. I'll make a suggestion for taking sunrise/sunset photos with your phone. If you turn your phone horizontally when photographing the horizon, you will capture more of the colourful horizon and less of the not so colourful clouds. I find it allows me to zoom in a lot more without cutting off the edges of the scene. Just something to consider when composing sunset photos. -
