  1. I think you just described some of the generic problems that apply to most any Point and Shoot cameras regardless of make or model. I use the P900 and it suffers from everything you mention. Buying camera gear is very much like getting the right exposure, you have to pick the right pluses and minuses to trade off in order to get the exposure/features we want. I am big fan of long focal lengths, but the superzoom cameras do have their short comings because of their long lenses.
  2. Thanks, @Bird Brain. Happy Birdday to you, too. 🍻
  3. Lots of good ones but Clip gets the win this time.
  4. Did you forget to take the lens cap off?
  5. If there's such a thing as being TOO agreeable, this might be one of those times.
  6. I like the composition/crop of the edited version but I prefer the original duck over the edited duck. The edited duck looks hazy(for lack of a better word) to me.
  7. Yes, I could put a 2x extender on the 300mm f/2.8 for a 600mm f/5.6 lens, and/or, I could put a 2x and 1.4 extender with the 300mm for a 840mm f/8 combo. I could also use a crop body to increase the focal length another 1.6x. There's lots of options I could work with but I'd rather work with the 100-400mm mark ii lens. 😉
  8. I just have to push him a little bit and he'll slide right off.
  9. Unacceptable!!! True, but still unacceptable.
  10. The video shows as a white screen that won't play for me. I'm not sure how to post a video uploaded to Whatbird, you may want to try uploading your videos to UTube and then copy and paste the link into the message box, that's how I do it.
  11. I remember thinking, during the heat of last summer, that it'd be nice if the nectar was served chilled. This is not what I had in mind.
  12. Last call for captions The discussion was long and well debated but in the end they decided that without the stone foundation, the fence may not have supported them all.
  13. Here's a few links. https://www.birdwatchingdaily.com/news/birdwatching/disease-outbreak-sparks-calls-to-take-down-bird-feeders/ https://www.wesa.fm/environment-energy/2021-07-04/public-asked-to-remove-bird-feeders-to-slow-spread-of-mysterious-bird-disease-in-pennsylvania https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/mass-residents-urged-to-take-down-bird-feeders-as-mystery-disease-spreads/2430525/
  14. Welcome to Whatbird, @ashleyw. As you suspected, Chukars are not one of our local species but it still must have been pretty cool to see one wandering around.
  15. Maybe I have the two birds oriented now, or maybe not. Short-eared owl?
  16. I am having a hard time orienting the bird(s), are there one or two birds?
  17. I am not an IT guy, @UnknownVT, but have you tried rebooting your modem? My brother recently had issues accessing websites and rebooting the modem/router solved his problem. As tech support suggested, he unplugged it for a few minutes and everything worked as expected when he plugged it back in.
  18. It looks like @Aveschapines tag didn't work in the above post.
  19. Caption this poor photo, and let me just set things straight right off the bat, "Poor Photo" is not an acceptable caption.
  20. I'm not sure there is such a thing as enough reach. My P900 has 2000mm at maximum zoom and I still end up using the digital zoom to boost it up to as much as 8000mm at times. My current DSLR set up is much shorter in focal range than I'd like and I do find myself yearning for a longer lens on a crop body camera like I used to have. What I have now can take some great photos but I am often pushing it beyond it's focal reach and then trying to salvage an extremely cropped photo. So that'd be a big NO, 420mm is not enough reach for me, but I have the P900 as a long lens alternative for now.
  21. I'm sure I look goofy being stooped over or crawling on my knees while I am grabbing a handful of dirt and inspecting it for hidden treasures. I hope that I might peak the curiosity of the nearby wildlife without going to the extent that the stoat/ermine/short-tailed weasel does when it tries to get closer to it's target. If I start rolling on the ground and start flopping around, it won't be to attract the attention of anything but the paramedics.
