  1. Maybe you should try taking pictures of the gnats. Picking up my camera is usually enough to make the birds disappear, maybe the same can work for your gnat problem.

  3. @TomFuller The eyeline that passes through the eye right up to the beak, which is visible in the new pic, is a good ID feature for Chipping Sparrows
  4. I'm curious what happened with your camera @Kevin? I'm guessing you found it after it went missing, or did you buy a new one? If you found it, is the story as silly as @Charlie Spencer losing his binoculars in his wife's vehicle?

  6. I've seen that shade of colour often enough that it was worth a guess, but it was just a guess.

  8. At first glance I thought I was looking at < snow? > but I still < I tried to force a shorb.>. When I saw more of the bird, I thought it was perched on a < concrete ledge >. I never would have reconsidered < snow? > without it being pointed out to me. Thanks guys.
  9. Have you tried mounting the binocular's case to your strap instead of the binoculars. The binoculars would be protected and could easily be accessed and re-secured.
  10. A little slow on my processing, but the Juncos showed up on the weekend.
  11. Yep. I wasn't sure that I wasn't looking at a weather condition at first.

  15. So how were your all day trips, @Charlie Spencer? Besides the Caspian Tern and other birds you saw, how'd you make out on your longer day trips? Were there enough young people around to help carry you back to your vehicle at the end of the day? Will you need to adjust your list of necessities for your next trip or did you have everything you needed/wanted with you? Curious minds want to know.
  16. I'm one of those guys that doesn't know what I am talking about, but likes to think that I do, at times. I'd call this a Sharpie until someone convinced me otherwise. The nape appears dark, although the angle makes it hard to be certain. The eye looks forward positioned to me, and the beak looks more small and jutting like a Sharpie. That's how this untrained eye sees things, but I only think I know what I'm talking about and I'm far from confident in my interpretation of these field marks.

  20. I think the second photo is another Pine Siskin, the bill looks too slender for a finch.
  21. I always thought of myself as being in a class of my own.
