Does anyone have thoughts on this?
Taken 10-21-2023 at San Joaquin Marsh (freshwater) in Irvine, (Orange Co.) CA.
This bird flew across the foreground of my photo from right to left. The blue markings look interesting. I'm not sure what it could be.
Least Sandpiper shown for scale. I adjusted the shadows and highlights.

Oh, I was guessing Gila Sand Sucker.

... Did the camera get it wrong, or is there an explanation for the green in the tail that I am missing?
Maybe there is a leaf stuck in its feathers.

Thanks. I don't think I've ever photographed one in-flight from above. It looks a little different. And I didn't realize the base of the tail was so wide.

... This is a Tricolored Blackbird.
Thanks. I thought this was a Tricolored (mostly because of the shape of the bill), but I had never identified one before -- although it's possible that I have a few photos of them without knowing it.

That's what I thought, but if anyone had a guess, it would be you -- that's in your backyard.
