  1. Taken on 4-29-2021 in the morning at Bear Divide in Angeles National Forest (between Canyon Country and Lake View Terrace, CA).  Ongoing migration count and banding station.

    I'm having trouble identifying these.

The first two pictures are of the same bird.  The 3rd and 4th pictures may or may not be of the same bird as the first two pictures.  All four pictures were taken within 3 minutes of each other, but I took some shots of a towhee in between, so I didn't have my eyes on the first bird the whole time.

  2. I should have added this information.

There were 95 Lazuli Buntings identified that day by the bird counters, and no Indigo Buntings.

In fact, the bird count occurred daily for 6 or 7 weeks, and no Indigo Buntings were identified.

This bird is probably a Lazuli Bunting, but it seems more like an Indigo -- if its not an entirely different genus.

I've never seen an Indigo Bunting before.

  3. Taken 5-7-2021 in the afternoon at Lower Scholl Canyon Park in Glendale, CA.

The first two photos are the same bird.  The third photo was taken 26 minutes later about 20 yards away, so probably a different bird.

I think these are both Wrentit's, but wonder if either are female Bushtit's.

I was photographing a Lazuli Bunting, and along comes this intruder.  Is it identifiable?

The best I can come up with on this one is a female Lazuli Bunting.  There were several male LAZB seen that day.

The first image is the original photo, just cropped.  The second image is upsized to 200% and shadows lightened.

  6. Thanks everyone.  That's another new one for me.  That makes 7 new species that have been identified from my photos from yesterday -- and I still have several more to ID.

I went to a migration counting and banding operation for the first time.  It was great to see how that all works.  I was amazed at how they could immediately identify the passerines in flight.  I have to take pictures, then come home and do research to identify most of them -- even the ones sitting still.

If anyone wants to see my partial checklist, its here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S86692306

And feel free to let me know if I've mis-identified any with photos (or without photos if you're that good).
