Hi, taken today in Vancouver BC. I thought this was a weird molting goldfinch but the more I look at it the weirder it looks. The dark tail, stout beak, and face pattern are making me wonder if I've stumbled on something else, possibly a pine grosbeak (which would be reasonably rare here). Please let me know what you think. All good with a weird goldfinch, but if it's something else I have to get it reported. Thanks!

There's a Reed or Palla's Bunting in Squamish BC. Either would be a first Canadian record but the salient features to distinguish them aren't in the photos. I have 113 in Metro Vancouver for the year (in the top 100 list at 184th), and 132 for the "world" in a 4ish hour radius from my home. Both numbers are highs for me. I'll be out east for some family visits next month which should have these numbers jump a bit, even though I won't be doing much actual birding while there.
