  1. That is a very awesome trip! What was the lifer you saw in NYC in traffic?
  2. I found a stunned Canada Warbler in the middle of a business area near my house this morning while grocery shopping. It turned out that it was far from moribund, made a big racket for such a little bird when I attempted to lift it up from the middle of a fairly busy sidewalk, and flew off. On Sunday (8/20) there was a rare-for-the-area Upland Sandpiper, which my wife and I went out to see. It was hard to see as it would duck behind a little rise; also there was a fair amount of heat shimmer. This was the first time we've seen that species locally since the late 2000s, and seen it at all since 2015. On Friday morning (8/18) I was birding in a park a few miles from my house when I discovered an Olive-sided Flycatcher. Unfortunately, there were no other birders in the park at all. After getting home, I put the word out, and a few hours later someone was able to photograph it. It hasn't been seen since.

  4. I miss hearing greenfinches calling (I lived for two years in Italy while I was in high school)
  5. The first call is an Eastern Chipmunk. The second sounds like an insect to me.

  7. There is an Upland Sandpiper in my county, so my wife and I went to look for it this afternoon. We saw it, and ran into some birding friends that we hadn't seen for some time. Neither one of us have seen that species recently, so it was nice to see it through the heat shimmer in between the 3 dozen Killdeers.

  9. I agree. I have seen many Boat-tailed Grackles that have molted all their tail feathers at once.
  10. I can see and hear this attachment. Where and when was this recording made?
  11. Welcome, BFN! Where and when did you hear this bird? Also, I don't see any attachment.
  12. The Limpkin in my county, that I found out about while on a field trip 30 miles in another direction, in another county (and state). It was found this morning, and was still there 2 hours ago when I left, after seeing it in the clear no more than 25 feet from me).
  13. Limpkin in my county, found this morning (not my checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S147633422.) I saw it as close as about 25 feet this afternoon, out in the open, in the canal, foraging for clams. There are five accepted records for Maryland, none for my county. Yesterday I saw an Olive-sided Flycatcher close to home. These two sightings bring me up to 203 species for the year.

  17. I agree. The throat is lightly buffy, and there is a low contrast between the chest and belly, and the upperparts.
