  1. I was wondering that, too, like maybe blueberries or blackberries? I wonder what else they could be eating around here.
  2. Thank you, for the input. I don’t think it was wet. It was cold and dry around here yesterday, but perhaps it had lost some feathers on top. I had to do some double takes because the blue kept showing up, even without the binoculars.

  4. I saw a bird yesterday that at first I thought was an Eastern Bluebird, because it had some blue and a red chest. Then I peered at it with my binoculars, and could tell it WAS NOT a Bluebird. I grabbed my camera and took some photos, through the window. Yes, I know, big no no, but it was only about 20 degrees outside and I didn’t want to miss figuring him out completely. Anyway, I determined that it looked more like a House Finch, which are common here, but some of his feathers were really blue. Not many, but along his back and wings. 5. Hello all, it’s been a year since I’ve logged in at whatbird. Just wanted to give an update on the Eastern Bluebirds in my neck of the woods. Last winter I decided to try a different method for getting Bluebirds to nest on my property. I’ve had a problem with House Sparrows kicking them out. This past year I decided to see if adding more nesting boxes helped, and it did! I added 3 to the existing one. I was hoping that the HS wouldn’t be able to defend so many boxes. At first, I didn’t think it would take. It seemed that the BBs decided to nest out in the woods or on another property. Then I n
  6. Roughly the end of June, about the time the forum wasn't quite up, I saw a silhouettes of a bird I hadn't seen before from my sunroom window. All I could see was a buff body through my binoculars. Too many leaves in the way. The Merlin app suggested a cuckoo, but that sightings weren't common. We had an enormous house repair project going at the time, so I shelved my daily nature perusing for the most part. About 10 days later, after a huge rainstorm, I was looking out the window again. This time I got a really good look at the bird. It was a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. The white circles on the tail
  7. Hello all, I'm so glad to see the forums back up. I was wondering where the category would be located if I wanted to discuss things like cameras, binoculars, and other equipment commonly used to enjoy birding. Will those kinds of topics be relegated to miscellaneous or general discussion? I'm just not sure where to look. Is anyone else even interested?
