  1. Got long-awaited lifers Red-breasted Merganser and Greater Scaup while in the St. Lawrence region of NY a few days ago!
  2. Could someone please help me report this misidentified Brown-headed Cowbird? For some reason I still don't have the option to do that, does anybody know how many checklists you have to submit for that? https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/617278484 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/617278484
  3. FOY Eastern Phoebe in the rain! A Canada Goose pair is nesting in a pond in my patch.
  4. Vischer Ferry Preserve, Saratoga County, New York. 01/01/2024
  5. My regular birding walks have put me up to 36, and number one for the county now.
  6. Yeah, weather is pretty much the same here. Quite a lot of the snow melted last night, hopefully it won't freeze tonight and give us an ice layer...
  7. birdie 🦢 #600: 🟥🟩⬛⬛⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/
  8. FOY Mourning Dove and Green-winged Teals which triggered a high count. I really need to go through and edit my photos... https://ebird.org/checklist/S158519807
  9. Neck pattern says Common Loon, especially when you zoom in. I've seen Horned Grebe from a distance and the shape and coloration of the neck is different.
  10. I agree that this is a Louisiana Waterthrush. The streaking on the throat is not dense enough and it gives a pretty typical Louisiana feel.
  11. https://ebird.org/checklist/S158389852 Birding as it snowed.
  12. FOY Red-tailed Hawk screaming before it took off and flew toward a duck group on the river...
  13. https://ebird.org/checklist/S158300909 An interesting trip- saw a large flock of gulls screaming on the little open water the river still has. Three Great Blues were hanging out in the midst of them, and my FOY Belted Kingfisher trilled loudly as it flew back and forth.
  14. Now at 33, ahead of last year at this date.
  15. birdie 🦢 #596: 🟩⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/
  16. Cute little FOY Downy Woodpecker in the midst of snow.
  17. I ended with 211, I had some great birding last year but I never bird as much as I'd like to in the last few months of the year.
  18. My first birds of the year were Canada Geese 😂 I'm at 29 species so far, it's hard to get birds in the winter here when you can't travel much. I'm missing most notably Downy Woodpecker, Mourning Dove, and Common Merganser, which are normally pretty common this time of year in the habitats I've been birding.
  19. I'm not really focusing on listing this year, because it's not always a reliable indicator of birding skill and often involves a lot of traveling (difficult for a young birder). I do want to get out birding more- every day without heavy precipitation- and fill in data gaps for my county- hopefully getting a few lifers in the process! I'll be focusing on birding within my county and some good birding spots in bordering counties.
  20. My first Red Knot at Cape Kolka in Latvia. Lifer Wilson's Warbler that was really close to me. First Laughing Gull while stuck in traffic heading to the airport in NYC. Those are probably my top three, I had my best birding year yet!
  21. I saw, but unfortunately too much of a drive for me.
  22. Any weird warblers this time of year tend to be Pine.
  23. This is a Boat-tailed Grackle, female Commons don't have the pale supercilium.
