    Yep! I see them out of the car window all the time, but seldom vultures, especially not in winter.

    It's not a Red-shouldered. Streaking is wrong and would be extremely rare. I'd say Red-tailed, although I'm extremely inexperienced with hawks from this region.

    Yeah, the brightness is actually barely enough for the naked eye to see, so in order to have any chance of seeing it, you have to be in a place where it's very dark at night, and wait at least half an hour for your eyes to adjust. My father froze his fingers last night looking for it before looking this up.
