My initial impression was Philadelphia, but looking closer I'm not so sure. The yellow seems like more of a wash and the facial pattern seems strong but is still giving me more Warbling vibes from the face alone. Philadelphias should have the yellow brightest on the throat, but this bird seems to have yellow brightest on the sides, and I'm not sure how much of the yellow on this bird is coming from leaf reflection.
I'm leaning toward Warbling on this one but it would be good to see more photos if possible.

Yep! Looks good with the white undertail coverts.
Rare there?

Why not a Red-tail? Leg color and helmet look could also be a RT
Wing shape was wrong when I saw it in flight.

Got my long overdue lifer Peregrine Falcon. The weather was warm and sticky, but still a pretty interesting day. Saw quite a few juvenile birds, including the first juvenile Northern Mockingbird I've seen.

Been seeing Blue Jays migrating, and a Great Egret. I still haven't seen any migratory warblers.

I'm thinking Peregrine Falcon. Looks helmeted and leg color is right.
My thoughts as well, thanks!

Agree, although I suspect Fish would be uncommon but didn't check.
According to the bar charts from the refuge, both American and Fish are quite common in August.

Without call, American and Fish are virtually inseparable. Not a raven. That said, it is giving me fishy vibes.

I have Variable Oystercatcher...but no American or Black.

I think it's a Least Sandpiper.

Incredible day! The Alder Flycatcher, Worm Eating Warbler (my nemesis!) and Yellow Warbler were all lifers. For the distance covered, I got a good number of species as well. I'd normally walk further here and get more species, but I spent a lot of time at the Alder Flycatcher stakeout spot:
https://ebird.org/checklist/S148799768Your "Yellow Warbler" has flank streaking, I think it's a Prairie.

I think it's a Warbling Vireo.

How do you decide what width-height ratio to crop? The app I use allows me to specify free hand, fixed ratio, or fixed size. I've been using fixed size 2000 x 1500 simply because that approximates my monitor dimensions. It's better than when I wasn't cropping at all but sometimes still leave a smaller / distant bird a bit isolated in the image.
It depends on the photo. I usually use 4:3, but sometimes 3:2.

I had to stare at it for a while, but maybe <my recent experience with others of this genus helped?>

It looks more brownish-gray than green to me.
It's a Painted Bunting. There are other differences in plumage and structure that distinguish them besides color.
