🤦♀️ birdie 🦢 #230: 🟥🟥🟥🟩⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/

It is not a bad excuse, take me, alone I can only bird within my tiny neighborhood, and it is extremely difficult to convince my parents to take me anywhere. @Birds are cool you are really lucky. I can only wish to do as much birding in different places.

This reminds me of a story my father likes to tell. One day in the '80s, he was heading home from school on his motorcycle in rural Germany, when a pheasant flew up from the side of the road. He barely had time to register what was coming at him before it collided with his helmet and died. He strapped the bird to his gas tank and brought it home, and they had the tasty pheasant for Sunday lunch.

Common Grackle?
Quiscalus quiscula replied to DaBirb's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Yep, I also started when I was 12. I was quite into geography just before birding, and that helped me get into birding, but that's definitely not the worst mistake I've seen. -
It first spread as slang in the 1980s. I've heard it among young people here in the northeast, but it's also used in Australia and other areas of the US, I believe.

My username broke your keyboard. 🤣

"Sick" is an expression of something being “outstandingly or amazingly good or impressive.” Basically, cool.

Well, I'm actually No. 1 in my county for species for year! It's going to be harder to keep up as more migratory species start coming in the spring, though.

I forgot to say, the chips are indeed Chipping Sparrows, sorry. -

I hear Tufted Titmouses, maybe a cardinal, and a rooster in the backyard. TUTI are the loudest. -
ID please

Sorry, I'm only hearing wind. Perhaps the microphone was not sensitive enough to pick up the bird. What did it sound like? -
European Starlings brings me to 29, but I won't be able to do any proper birding today except for a few incomplete checklists, because of the weather and today has been quite a busy day for me.

Unfortunately, it's not working for me. -
What should I call it ...

Yeah, I have no idea how I got it! At first I was thinking yellowlegs, but then the streaking and GISS somehow made me guess Stilt.

First Photo of the Year!

You can try putting your camera to your binoculars, it can sometimes produce better images once you get the hang of it. From a fellow person with a poor camera 😉 -

Wow, looks good for Rusty Blackbird. -
Yeah, here there are much fewer species in winter. Further south you should get a lot more wintering species though.

https://ebird.org/checklist/S125228547 Awesome birding for this location and season. Northern Harrier is a really good bird, hasn't been seen for several months in the county and only my second sighting ever.

Up to 26 now, I've got to wait till spring to get a lot more birds on there.
