Yesterday's was a very vocal Black-capped Chickadee making gargling calls and chip noises that let me get quite close.

Yesterday: an American Goldfinch I heard singing, first time I IDed one singing. The only reason I recognized it right away was: I was wondering if it really sounded like “potato chips”, so I listened to it(it doesn’t IMO) and thus my subconscious learned a song.I recognized it as “oh that one bird… wait it’s that one bird that doesn’t sound like potato chips… that one bird is a AMGO! Is there a term for say: looking in a field guide, seeing a WBNU in it, then seeing a WBNU a few weeks later, and you know immediately that’s a WBNU.? If there isn’t there should be.
Yep, that's how a learned a lot of my bird vocalizations.

Finished up my GBBC with 6 species… @Quiscalus quiscula, you got more species than me in one checklist. Congratulations! never ended up going to that cemetery…
Kudos to you for making an effort in that crazy cold weather you have there!

It's a pretty shabby checklist, too much cold wind when I went out, but at least I can say I participated.

@Quiscalus quisculaquiscula, I saw this on my Saratoga county rare bird alerts. Thirteen reports in total.
If I can convince my parents I might chase it when I'm feeling better. Chased one at the same location last month, but didn't find it.

You might be a birder if strangers come up to you and ask why the birds haven't migrated away in January.

Haha, I’m trying to put it up at a park sometime(there any rules against that?) because my yard doesn’t have spots to hang it. Haven’t gotten mice in the birdseed yet, not even the stuff in the garage.
Be careful and keep stuff well sealed, mice may be attracted over time. They'll easily bite through soft plastic as well. I keep my birdseed in a bucket with a lid, and that's in the basement.

Woodpeckers have started drumming, as well as Tufted Titmouses, Northern Cardinals, and Black-capped Chickadees. The weather is not great, but we no longer have a snow cover, though it can't be called spring until around May.

Yes, it's a Blue Jay. They are pretty convincing in their mimicry, I've been fooled a couple times, but their are differences in timbre.

Unfortunately not going to be able to go birding much either, weather hasn't been great and my family is down with COVID.
