Haha this I can agree to ^ That's how I learned to be the birder I am today... Spending a lot of time looking through different paper field guides. Its amazing what you can learn by going that route! Of course, apps and researching birds online does have its perks too. -

I'll agree with Solitary Sandpiper! The eye ring is one thing that helps ID them -
Tough view of a vireo
Snapshotbirder replied to Snapshotbirder's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Yeah I don't recall too much... Had it listed as a White-eyed, guess I'll just leave it as Vireo sp though. Wish I had better views! -
These all look like Commons with those short tails (compared to Boat-tailed anyway)

Almost sounds like a Painted Bunting, except they're blue above. Might check out photos just to be sure? Welcome to the site, by the way! EDIT: Male Painted Buntings have a blue head but green back, females are plain pale green all over. I'd say that's a pretty good bet! -

Juvenile Heron?
Snapshotbirder replied to xpoetmarcr's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
Yep, Juvenile Black-crowned Night-heron! -
I can agree with Psweet, plus a lot of ducks are molting right now, which can make for some odd looking birds.
