Sorry for the delay, got home later than I thought I would... So, congrats, Birds are Cool! Good job, love your perseverance, and there's a definite improvement between your 2 posted drawings. You're the winner - you get to pick the next bird to draw, and set the deadline.

Three more days... Is anyone participating?

Thank you! Let's do Forster's Tern, unless it's been done before. Deadline: July 9, 7pm CST.

Thanks, everyone! I'm about an hour southwest of St. Louis (Franklin County).

I think this is a Veery, but one guide shows it's region being further north that Missouri (I'm in east central Missouri), another shows Missouri in the migration area. These are my crummy photos (which I was surprised came out at all). Any opinions/help?

Summer Tanagers are back, along with the Barn Swallows. Saw 2 male, 1 female Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, there's a small flock (maybe 30?) of Cedar Waxwings still hanging around, as are a few Yellow-rumped Warblers. Also saw a pair of Baltimore Orioles - first time in about 6 years. Whoot!
-
Congrats on your win! What's the deadline?
-
Two male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were at one of my feeders. Haven't seen Grosbeaks in a couple of years, and I got buzzed by my first of the season Ruby-throated Hummingbird this morning. Good thing I put a feeder out yesterday so he didn't swear at me.

Finally finished, I think. Color pencil, on 6 x 8 paper

It's a wonderful drawing, and since no one else participated, guess what? You're the winner! Congrats!
-
Well done! Only a little over an hour to go, so you might be the only one submitting a drawing.

Saw a couple of yellow-rumped Warblers this morning. Again, while walking the dog and no camera... Sigh.

Okay, I'm an idiot... I was flipping through my bird book and the photo of the Green Winged Teal looked like a grey duck, with some brown on the wings, a brown head with green behind the eye. Then I looked at a photo online. Holy tiny stripes! How about we change to my second choice, which was the black-throated blue warbler? Same deadline. Anyone who wants to take a whack at the duck (artistically, of course) will get my undying respect, but not much else...

Finally heard an Eastern Towhee singing. I think he's taunting me - was walking the dog and there he was, sitting pretty in a sapling not 20 ft away (and stayed there as I stopped to look at him). He knew I didn't have my camera... Still have juncos hanging around, too, they should be leaving soon.
-
Thank you! The next bird is the Green-winged Teal, (unless that's been done?) Deadline is April 8, 7pm CST.
-
This is great!
-
Thank you. I needed to stop fussing with it. It's a 6 x 8.

Eastern Phoebes are back and had about 40 Robins holding a convention in the woods around the house yesterday. Haven't seen that many before, usually have a small flock of a dozen or less. Also, I don't know if it's because our property is so heavily wooded, but I never see mockingbirds. I'll see them half a mile away but never at our place.
-
Congrats! You're the winner!

I know that feeling... Good job!
