  1. Thanks to all. I haven't had a Fox Sparrow at the feeders since 2015. There were 36 Oregon Juncos at the feeders this morning, along with 12 Pink-sided and 4 Slate-colored. Odds are in favor of the Oregon.
  2. Thanks. That's likely an Oregon Junco, though under better light with binoculars it might turn into a Pink-sided.
  3. I posted this to eBird as a Song Sparrow at my feeders during a snow storm near Pocatello Id. a couple of days ago, but today it's looking like it could be a Fox Sparrow. The one verified Song Sparrow I've had at my feeders the last few weeks is not so big next to the juncos, and it's lighter brown on the back with finer streaks on the breast. Thanks!
  4. Thanks. Sorry, I forgot to add the context. This is near Pocatello Idaho, taken March 8.
  5. Is this a female Slate-colored or a drab Pink-sided? The contrast between the head and back is confusing.
  6. This is what comes of feeding birds in the same spot for 24 years. On cross-country skis a couple of miles from here we spotted a Golden Eagle hanging out on a power pole. But you still have more species. Here I only have to pay attention to a couple of warblers.
  7. Thanks. The white stripe patterns on the back seem more jumbled than those of American Goldfinches too, no?
  8. I think I've got a good handle on the adult male Lesser Goldfinches, but still I'm still hazy with females / immatures. Are all of these Lesser? Thanks again.
  9. It looks like there was a sighting Jan 4 in town. Thanks again.
  10. Thanks for checking eBird. I was going by the range map at All About Birds and didn't think of it. I'll have a look at Bannock County on eBird to see if anyone else has spotted them nearby. They come to the feeders occasionally in the summer but I don't recall ever having seen them in the winter. Dan
  11. Thanks for the quick responses. Lesser Goldfinches don't usually winter this far north (southern Idaho) so I didn't trust my eyes.
  12. Can anyone help me decide if this is an American Goldfinch or a Lesser Goldfinch? Sorry the picture is so fuzzy. https://photos.app.goo.gl/cYaUGVbooD4zWM2W7
