Orange-crowned Warbler -
birdie π¦ #38: π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π© Another embarrassing one. I also thought I had already used the second word in its name. I need my coffee. β

I'm certainly not itching to go outside in this heat. π Don't expect any checklists from me for a bit, unless I go up the mountain or see something interesting in the yard.

birdie π¦’ #36: π¨π¨π©β¬β¬β¬ @PalmWarblerI guessed the two "obvious" ones first, but yes, the habitat is important for getting this one quickly. I have not seen today's bird.

When I was in South Carolina, my crow counts were based on sounds. When they didn't vocalize, I just put down "crow sp."

Osprey -
birdie π¦ #35: π₯π¨π¨π©β¬β¬ This was one of my favorite birds when I was young. I have photographed it. I've learned that it's best to not waste a guess by putting nothing. Even if you haven't the foggiest, at least put in a bird with a color or with common, American, northern, winged, tailed, or headed in its name. I've been playing this game without a field guide and treating it as a way to test my knowledge. However, it's perfectly fine to play with a field guide, as then it's a test in your ability to use the tools at your disposal.

I'd have 25 (all minus Barn Swallow and the four that are invasive in the US). I really do need to bird outside the US someday.

I'm in the same boat. 350 would be a solid goal for the year, but 400 would definitely require a trip to somewhere inland out east during the fall migration, and a good California coast trip as well. Also, @Kevin this thread should probably be moved to the General Birding Topics board. π
