Not a Grouse. May be in night hawk , night jar group. Wings are shape of a Falcon , clean edges

Bird is on hiking trail past three weekends ,May 22 , in mornings , always on ground , same spot . Have only seen back of bird .it is all dark brown , no other colors . No bars , no stripes , about 22 inch wingspan thanks

Bird is on wooded trail , flys close to ground . 22 inch wing span , wing shape is falcon like . Molted brown with rust color spots on back .Wings an back and tail all same color . No bars on wing or tail . No strips . No sounds . seems to always be on ground . I have seen it only three times Thanks. Dave
