Female Northern Cardinal?
The Bird Nuts replied to ronvan3's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
I agree with @Quiscalus quiscula - I don't see anything wrong with it being an adult or near-adult female. It is certainly not a male since young males have very red plumage before their beak changes color. -
Thanks! Contrast is important too..although, in this piece I purposely lowered the contrast for a more stylized look... Anyway, I believe seeing contrast doesn't come naturally and artists have to teach themselves to see it and just how dark the darks are.

Last bird is a Purple Finch, imo. -
What bird (song)?
The Bird Nuts replied to KnotLisa's topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
My thought was young sparrow (lots of weird sparrow sounds this time of year) and I think it sounds like a White-throated. -

Agree with Dickcissel for the second bird. The first is an Indigo Bunting. -

I wonder where @Snarkhunter went.

That sounds good. I can draw a CANG for this contest and BIRDTOBER at the same time!

@Quiscalus quiscula you're the winner! I guess we'll take a break from this contest for now. Here is the thread for this year's BIRDTOBER art challenge for anyone interested: https://forums.whatbird.com/index.php?/topic/26967-birdtober-2022/

It's a flycatcher. Pewee?
-
Correct.

Here's what I have so far. Watercolor and colored pencil.

Everything about it doesn't feel like a Pine except the bill and plain back/shoulders. The greener yellow color, the small head, and @chipperatlmakes a good point - the tail's too short. I think it's got to be a strange Blackpoll...

The first two are Traill's. For #3, the head seems too small for an EAPH - why not Eastern Wood-Pewee?

Yes, White-throated. -
Red-shouldered for me. Juvie RSHA tail patterns vary quite a bit.

That is the most Baypoll looking Pine I've ever seen...

I agree with this.
