  1. I agree with @Quiscalus quiscula - I don't see anything wrong with it being an adult or near-adult female. It is certainly not a male since young males have very red plumage before their beak changes color.
  2. Thanks! Contrast is important too..although, in this piece I purposely lowered the contrast for a more stylized look... Anyway, I believe seeing contrast doesn't come naturally and artists have to teach themselves to see it and just how dark the darks are.
  3. Here's my goose portrait from BIRDTOBER. (watercolor and colored pencil)
  4. My thought was young sparrow (lots of weird sparrow sounds this time of year) and I think it sounds like a White-throated.
  5. ? birdie ? #137: ????⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/
  6. Agree with Dickcissel for the second bird. The first is an Indigo Bunting.
  7. That sounds good. I can draw a CANG for this contest and BIRDTOBER at the same time!
  8. @Quiscalus quiscula you're the winner! I guess we'll take a break from this contest for now. Here is the thread for this year's BIRDTOBER art challenge for anyone interested: https://forums.whatbird.com/index.php?/topic/26967-birdtober-2022/
  9. birdie ? #136: ??⬛⬛⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/
  10. Here's what I have so far. Watercolor and colored pencil.
  11. Everything about it doesn't feel like a Pine except the bill and plain back/shoulders. The greener yellow color, the small head, and @chipperatlmakes a good point - the tail's too short. I think it's got to be a strange Blackpoll...
  12. Yikes birdie ? #135: ?????⬛ https://birdiegame.net/
  13. The first two are Traill's. For #3, the head seems too small for an EAPH - why not Eastern Wood-Pewee?
  14. Red-shouldered for me. Juvie RSHA tail patterns vary quite a bit.
  15. That is the most Baypoll looking Pine I've ever seen...
