  1. Happy Fall migration everyone. I went birding today in Central Park. Took a lot of blurry photos ? A couple stumpers here. I tried my best to narrow down my hunches. Photos 1 and 2: Either a lincoln or sparrow. Photo 3: Female Pine? Photo 4. Cape May Warbler- basing it on streaks and yellow tone. It perched right above me! Photo 5: Song Sparrow? Photo 6: Pine Warbler Thank you so much for your help!
  2. Really! Now that you mention it, the mandible was also throwing me off. That is wild. Thank you so much.
  3. My first intuition is female bay-breasted because I can't see any streaks. And the dark colors of the wings are darker than the pine warbler. But...I have my doubts. I saw her at Riverside Park this afternoon in NYC. Your help is always much appreciated ?
  4. Hi all! I think the first two photos are of a Yellow-throated Vireo, the third photo is a female Scarlet Tanager and the last one is a Blue-winged Warbler. I never got a clear shot of these birdies so that's why I'm not sure of my IDs. Thanks for your help!
  5. Thank you everyone. I think this is just a good lesson for me to not just rely on photos, but also pay more close attention to songs and behavior. Really appreciate all of your input. ?
  6. I thought sparrows and wrens were hard - they are cake compared to flycatchers. I have three that I'm iffy on. I saw all of them in Central Park this morning. Next time I hope I can record their calls - I've read that that's the best way to distinguish them. I think the first one is an Eastern Wood-Pewee, the second is Yellow Bellied, and the third is I think an Alder - but I'm not sure.
  7. Thank you @Avery - hopefully I see it around the neighborhood again soon and get another opportunity to get a better look at it.
  8. Hi everyone! Saw what I think is an American Kestrel on West End and West 102nd Street in NYC this afternoon. It was across the street so I couldn't see the markings. But the neck was short and the head was bigger than a mockingbird. It bobbed its tail while it perched atop a turret. This is the only photo my husband managed to get.
  9. Cool! I have never seen a juvenile junco before. And I'll compare the hawk to your suggestions. Thank you.
  10. Hi everyone. Hope you guys are keeping cool. Went camping last week in Chenango Valley State Park and Clarence Fahnestock State Park and was lucky to see some amazing birds. I need help with some doubts I have. I think the brown streaked one is a juvenile cowbird but I didn't see a lot of cowbirds around. I mostly saw juncos nearby where this little one was. Then - I have two flycatchers from a distance that I think are both Great Crested Flycatchers. However, one had a longer tail. Then, I think the darker flycatcher is an Eastern Phoebe, however, it didn't do the tail wag. Could it be a least flycatcher? That's my other guess. Also I think this is a sharp skinned hawk. It's a terrible photo and the only one I managed to take. The hawks in NYC let me get closer. And wood thrush? Thanks everyone!
  11. Thanks @The Bird Nuts and @Connor Cochrane - lots of Wilson's this year. Hope I get a chance of seeing a hooded warbler one day ?
  12. Morning everyone! Just got back from a relatively quiet bird walk in Riverside Park, NY. I think these are a female Common Yellowthroat, and Northern Parula. I don't know what the third one is. Then I think the thrush is Hermit Thrush and last one is (I hope) a female Hooded Warbler. Thanks guys!
  13. Forgive the terrible pictures - these are the best of the bunch! I think this is a female Black-Throated Blue - it was hanging out in a tree that was also occupied by a male Canada Warbler. And this flycatcher was hanging out on a gate. Thanks for your help you guys! Hope everyone is safe and healthy! Both in Riverside Park, New York, NY this afternoon.
  14. Thanks @Devin Carrinton ! I was pretty stoked to see it even though I didn't ID it until I got back home ? I just thought - you don't look like a warbler!
  15. Hi everyone! Hope you are all enjoying migration season! I was out at Central Park this morning and saw this elegant bird. I think it's a Blue Headed Vireo. What do you guys think?
  16. Hi everyone! I returned from a month long trip to Paraguay. While in Cerro Lambare, a hilltop in Asuncion, I saw this really beautiful bird. I looked for it in three field guides and can't seem to ID it. It looks like it may be a becard judging by the beak shape. Any ideas?
  17. @akandula @Mindy Smith @Bird Brain Thanks so much you guys! I am still learning! I am so grateful that birders are so happy to share their wealth of knowledge!
  18. I went to John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia, PA today. I took a pic of this beauty. I was at first thinking heron, but then looking through field guides doubted myself and wondered if it's an American Bittern. So, my top three guesses are: 1. Juvenile Green Heron, 2. Juvenile Black-crowned night heron and 3. American Bittern. What are your thoughts?
  19. Thank you everyone for your help! I told my friend your opinions and she was really excited. She also promised me she would buy a field guide and binoculars. Thank you so much!!!
