  1. Here are three I'm confirming, well 2 to confirm and one is a guess.  All taken last weekend in southern California.

    House Finch

    #2

Song Sparrow (not confident).  I've had more Chipping Sparrows around, but this one doesn't match and was smaller then the Song Sparrows I have identified

#3  Yellow Rumped Warbler?  No confidence in this one.  I know we have many variations of these in my area.

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. These were all taken last weekend in Southern California.

I believe this is a Bewick's Wren, but could be a House Wren.

    I'm unsure on this sparrow

This one I believe is a warbler.  Possible a Yellow-Rumped, but not sure as the patterns look different than other Yellow-Rumped I've spotted.

  3. OK,  All taken yesterday in Southern California.  First two off the porch and last in a hike at a local arroyo.

I'm pretty first are all House Finches.  Second I believe is a Bushtit, but thinking it could be a a gnat catcher.  Last one I am unsure of and it would not give me a head shot. Any help appreciated.

    House Finches

  4. Good Morning,

I'm pretty sure these are all California Thrashers but as I've been reading more I just making sure they are not Curved-billed Thrashers.  The first two were taken last February near Dana Pint CA and the last one was this past weekend in Southern California coastal mountains.  For the last one it's the one hiding on the left, he just wouldn't give me a good shot so the scrub jay came and tried to show him how :)

  5. OK, I'm pretty sure this is not a House Sparrow since it was smaller and didn't have the same behavior.  I'm also pretty sure it's not a Song Sparrow since no streaked breast and also smaller.  I'm thinking a Chipping Sparrow even though similar to Clay-colored.  All help welcomed and appreciated.  Sorry iPhone photos but with an 11 so a little better than my 10. :)

  6. Hi Trevor,

Near Oceanside there are a few lagoons (Aqua Hedionda and Buena Visa Lagoons) that provide good birding.  I think you can rent kayaks at one of them.  Further south in Encinitas is the San Diego Botanical Gardens that is excellent.  A little pricy but I think is free on the first Tuesday of the month if that applies.  I've had excellent days at the botanical gardens and is one of my favorite places in the area.  Also, the beaches there are great plus you have Oceanside Harbor.

The Salton Sea is also great in the winter South of Indio and the Southern Section of the sea, Sonny Bono National Wildlife Reserve I've hears is great, I've only been to the northern part.  It is Huge!!!! so plan enough time.  I've been to J-Tree but didn't have quality birding.  It wasn't the objective of the trip so I hope you have better luck if you go there.

  11. Hello,

Saw this folk this morning at Newport Beach, CA.  I first though they were sanderlings, but the size and bill color doesn't match.  Also, in the upper-left of the picture there appears to be a different shorebird that I cannot identify.
