  1. Hello, I observed these two Empidonax flycatchers at Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City, on 8/22/23. Neither of these birds vocalized. I would love your input based on attached photos. The expected empids in Mexico city this time of the year are Least, Hammond’s, Buff-bellied and Western (cordilleran). My initial ID was a Least, but I do not have any experience with this species, so would appreciate your expertise. Bird 1: First two photos bird 2: Bottom 3 photos Thank you!!
  2. Hello, I saw this Myiarchus Flycatcher in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico on 6/15/23. The two expected Myiarchus species are Brown-crested & Nutting's. I think the beak is too small to be a Brown-crested, especially considering the location, where the "western" brown-crested, which has a bigger beak. Unfortunately, I did not hear this bird vocalize. I do not have much of an experience with either of these flycatchers, so I appreciate your input and expertise.
  3. Hello, I saw this bird in Temescal Valley, Riverside County, California on 8/10. It initially game me a spizella sparrow impression, but I'm not quite seeing any matches. I appreciate your help!
  4. Hi all, I was able to snap a couple of digi-bin pics of this eagle flying over the hills of Oakland, CA this afternoon. I'm leaning on 1st year Bald Eagle as in the field, the white seemed more extensive than what a subadult Golden Eagle would've shown. I wanted to check with this forum to confirm. Thanks!
  5. Now that Thayer’s Gull is a subspecies of Iceland Gull, rather than a separate species, it makes sense. Immature gulls are so tricky!
  6. Saw this individual in Half Moon Bay, California. I think this is an Iceland Gull, though I am stuck on the subspecies. The coloration suggests an immature Kumlien's, though the primaries and tertials are darker than that of Kumlien's. Thank you for your help.
  7. Hello, This Gull was spotted in Point Reyes National Seashore in California. I initially thought that it was a Western Gull, but I was caught off guard by the pale eyes of this individual. Could this possibly be a hybrid of sorts or perhaps a Herring Gull? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello! This bird was seen in Mammoth Lakes, California on 9.15.18. It was seen at an elevation of around 8,000 feet. My wishful hope is a juvenile Northern Goshawk, but I wanted to get your opinion. Thank you!
