  1. Of course, being a brood parasite, the family was not blood related.πŸ€”πŸ˜‰
  2. Dark across tip of underside of tail, and light throat, maybe Ash-throated Flycatcher.
  3. Can we eliminate Lesser Nighthawk from these pics? Habitat fits better for them.
  4. Not one I have first hand experience with, but maybe an Eastern Phoebe?
  5. I think so, but I would expect a longer primary projection. Maybe molting.
  6. Agreed. And they are literally skimming.πŸ˜‰
  7. Dark cap , light nape, Cooper's Hawk.
  8. The rufous color on the sides is not found on Anna's. I would say Rufous based on that and location.
  9. Nighthawks don't have pointy Bill's. See the link I provided for a pic. Killdeer have pointy Bill's πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž
  10. Here's a Lesser Nighthawk from underneath. Looks different to me. The white is closer to the wing tip. We don't usually get Common Nighthawk in socal either. https://photos.app.goo.gl/d66rSWaJ79X82Cv1A
  11. I think those are missing feathers, not white marks. I'm also not seeing the right wing shape or bill length, but I could be wrong.
  12. You need to provide more details. Like how long was the bill and what shape was the bill? How about color of the bird was it all black like a grackle or different color? About the length of the tail it had a long tail or shorter tail? The more details you can provide the better. Without a picture it makes it really difficult.
  13. A few things to add. I agree with Cooper's here. On a behavioral note, Sharp-shinned generally avoid wide open perches like this. Also, if you check range maps you'll see that Sharpies are winter birds there, with most of them nesting further north, so they are out of town right now.
  14. And the reason you're not seeing other reports is that the Olive-sided probably just migrated back a few weeks ago.
  15. You are looking at it from a odd angle that doesn't show the true length of the bird. It appears more compact than it really is.
  16. My first impression is one of the Wood-Pewees. Not sure if you have Western or Eastern at your location.
