  1. Saw this on Sanibel Island (Ding Darling NWR) in Florida on February 5th. I think it is a Red-breasted Merganser, but am not sure since it is the first time I have seen one. Could it be a Common Merganser? Thanks for any ideas!
  2. We saw this bird in Balestrand, Norway in June. Could someone tell me what it might be? Thank you!
  3. Seen in January in Fort Myers Florida on Bunche Beach. 1. 2 sandpipers of some kind--semipalmated or least? 2. a plover of some kind (maybe Piping?) Thanks in advance for any help.
  4. I'm always amazed at the knowledge displayed on this site. I think all the evidence points to juvenile red-shouldered and will label it as such in my photo album. Thanks to all for your thoughts and expertise!
  5. Not sure about a Harrier or a Red-shouldered. Another possibility-- an immature Cooper's?
  6. Thanks for the detailed explanation! I assume this is a female or an immature since it has a bit less yellow on the breast than I associate with adult male palm warblers. The angle of the picture means you can't see if there that little bit of rusty cap, but perhaps that cap is seasonal anyway.
  7. Is this a yellow-rumped warbler? Seen in winter in southeastern Florida. Thanks!
  8. Saw these in southeastern Florida last year in late February. Markings seem so bold for a teal, but I don't know what else they could be. Thanks for any help!
  9. I suspect this is a female or a juvenile of whatever species it is--colors seem pretty muted. I saw this in late May. Any ideas? Thanks!
  10. I agree--thanks for the image of the juvenile green-winged Pytilia --it sure fits my picture!
  11. Is this a Kalahari scrub robin? It doesn't have an eye stripe, but perhaps a female or immature has more muted feathers on the head. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  12. Some guesses (I am identifying by position on grid that shows on my computer as 3 across). These are all definitely guesses and the birds I saw were in Botswana, so perhaps not found where you were. 1st row, far right: double-banded sandgrouse 4th row far right: swamp boubou 9th row far left: yellow-billed oxpecker juvenile
  13. I saw this bird in Botswana in the Kalahari Desert in early June. I thought maybe a female red-billed or red-headed quelea or some sort of weaver, but I would appreciate any thoughts anyone has on identification. Thank you!
