  1. . . . I should have resized the photo before I threw it on Imgur. Lol. But yeah, they sure took their sweet time! Glad to see him, though. Hope he sticks around, and some of his buddies show up! He was having to hang out with the goldfinches.
  2. Yes, they eat skunks! I've read multiple sources that say they will be careful to leave the scent glad intact, though.
  3. Agreed. It looks to be transitioning between plumages, which makes it look a little funky.
  4. I have no idea on Spotted Owl breeding seasons. It just struck me as sounding like an owl begging, and Barred sound raspier, although I wouldn't rule it out. This one on xeno-canto sounded very similar. https://www.xeno-canto.org/254027
  5. I think it's a begging call from either a Barred or Spotted Owl. After perusing xeno-canto, I'm leaning Spotted.
  6. This is one of the orioles, actually. Maybe a Baltimore.
  7. Wingtips are the giveaway. Most of the "normal" gulls you'll get have dark wingtips. Iceland don't.
  8. Both are Savannahs. (which come in multiple variations.) The yellow lores, fine streaking, and thin bill point to Savannah. Lark Sparrows don't have streaking like that, and an even stronger facial pattern with a warm rusty color. Songs don't have yellow lores, and the bill is typically a little chunkier.
  9. You have a female Boat-tailed Grackle, a Pied-billed Grebe, and an immature Little Blue Heron! 🙂
  10. Agree with Cooper's also. Also agree with refreshing the browser, although clear your cache first, then refresh.
  11. You know there's usually Baltimores over here in Augusta in the winter. Saw one at Phinizy this past Sunday.
  12. Agree with Red-winged Blackbird. The females and immature males throw a lot of people for a loop. Welcome to Whatbird!
  13. The bill seems fairly large, too, which would be a Bald.
  14. I think so? Wait for someone else to chime in, though.
  15. Aw, that's a bummer. It was frigid here, so I stayed inside and went out at set intervals to look, grab a few shots, and run back inside. Lol. It was a beautiful eclipse; even some of my surly teenagers went outside to look at it, and were impressed!
  16. One more totality shot, that shows the color better. Totality by midgetinvasion, on Flickr
  17. In case you didn't get to see it. Not the best photos, but better than what people's phones got!
