  3. 11 Nov 2021 Baldwin co. AL; over Mobile Bay close to bay beach (sand, mud flats) Under the American Avocet--could this be a Stilt Sandpiper? The other 3 appear to be yellowlegs, but those bills seem thin.
  4. 09 Nov 2021 Baldwin co AL; rural, undeveloped property; thick mixed woods, seeps, springs, pine savannah Appear to be 2 individuals calling. Very high, slightly descending note (?maybe 2), at times regular, at times not. 2021_11_09_1703_marker 1ed.wav
  5. 02 Nov 2021 Baldwin co. AL; public park at delta; estuary/marsh If IDs wrong, pointers for correct ID would be appreciated! 1. Swamp (2) 2. Swamp 3. Swamp
  6. 27 Oct 2021 Baldwin co. AL; bayfront public park Might just be the angle, but the one bird looks a little different

  10. 05 Sep 2021 2:30 PM Baldwin co. AL; rural area; upland (dry, sandy) longleaf/loblolly pine stand adjacent to deciduous woods, wetlands (springs & sinks), river
  11. 05 Oct 2021 Baldwin co. AL; bayside public park, heavily wooded, cypress swamp, pine palmetto, oak/magnolia 1. Flying like a swallow. Northern Rough-winged vs. just a EUST 2. maybe same bird as #1 3. Thought this was a White-breasted Nuthatch but he looks odd 4. Blackburnian vs. other warbler sp. 5. Best guess is Eastern Wood Peewee, but that tail is short.
  12. 13 Sept 2021 Baldwin co., AL; bayside public park; heavily wooded; cypress swamp, pine-oak uplands, marsh, stream 1. Eastern Wood Peewee vs. Empidonax sp. Does his qualify as an eye-ring? 2. Blue-gray Gnatcatcher vs. ?
  13. 04 Aug 2021 Baldwin co. AL; suburban yard; feeding hurriedly on pokeberries; in constant motion, hopping quickly through shrub There were 2 individuals, both the same in coloring, etc. I hesitated calling female YEWA, because at least one had visible streaking on the underside
  14. 18 May 2021 Baldwin co. AL; Brackish/saltwater marsh and surrounds 1. Immature male Painted Bunting. It was singing its heart out. Pic & 2 audio files. But should we have those here at this time? 20210518_085308 - Copy_ed.wav 20210518_085148 - Copy_ed.wav 2. Purple Gallinule (Lifer) 3. Cliff Swallow (Lifer)
  15. Dec 26 & 27, 2020 Baldwin co. AL; Gulf of Mexico Taken over 2 subsequent days in same general location, so may be the same individual. I originally listed as Common Loon, but now wondering if that throat delineation is too clean and it is a Pacific. 12/26 12/27
  16. All taken in Feb. in Mobile or Baldwin co. AL in public parks with lakes or brackish marsh 1. ?Swamp Sparrow 2. ?Song Sparrow 3. ?Song Sparrow 4. ???. Why the short tail--molting? 5. ?All Chipping. This was a group of a dozen or so that was feeding on bread 😞 left by some well-intended persons. 6. ?Song Sparrow
  17. 01 Mar 2021 Baldwin co. AL Is it more likely this bill deformity is due to trauma or infection? Either way, rehabbers won't take the bird because it is a species non-native to the area. What to do?
  18. 15 Feb 2021 Baldwin co. AL; Boardwalk along a weedy creekside corridor wedged between an interstate/4-lane highway exchange, hotels, and a saltwater bay. The creek is separated from the boardwalk by tall, vine-covered chain-link fence on either side. This bird was singing high from a tree top on the far side of the creek near a hotel parking lot. There appears to be 2 sustained notes followed by 3 more rapid, higher notes. 20210215_131035ed - Copy.wav
  19. 10 Feb 2021 Baldwin co. AL; Mobile Bay American White Pelican vs. Great Egret These birds were far offshore on a spit of sandbar. They never did raise their heads. Before I could go back and get my spotting scope, it started pouring rain, so these are the best shots I have. I thought their overall shape, posture, & fact they were in a pretty tight social group was more on the side of American White Pelican, but idk. There is a Ring-billed Gull on the far left for reference.
  20. 29 Jan 2021 Baldwin co. AL Longleaf/loblolly pines adjacent to mixed deciduous woods, spring-fed wetlands, and river Literally the south end of a north-bound bird. I just caught him before he disappeared behind the tree tops.
  21. 21 Jan 2021 Baldwin co. AL Bay/Estuarine environment
  22. 3 May 2020 Baldwin co AL; suburban yard One bird calls at 1, 5, 9, 15... Second species (I think multiple individuals, though) quick, high whistles (?cardinals) I recognize the Laughing Gulls calling from overhead. They are on their way from our local dump to the one in Pensacola. I could set my watch by them. 😄 20200503_084634 - Copy.wav
