Migratory bird in Columbia, NJ
labradorduck posted a topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
My friend and I are stumped- we can't figure out what bird this is! I was hiking near Buttermilk Falls in Columbia, NJ and I saw what looked like a migratory bird. The size of a catbird with a more full body and a slightly pointed head like a cardinal. Dark black body and white stomach and red spots under each wing. It was flying and flew into a small tree before flying away. I was unable to get a picture. It kind of sounded like, "Sooooweet!" -
Saw this early morning flying far above at Downingtown, PA. Suburb of Philadelphia. Pictures are of one raptor. Pictures are just so so since it was too far and also cloudy sky! Seen on Nov 12th. Never seen a black raptor before in this area (unless it is a Black Vulture)!

This bird has been at our suet. Seen in Maine, open fields, woods, and water. It acts like a Downy or Hairy woodpecker, is feisty and more yellow and black than white and black. I haven't found it anywhere on line or in books. It looks like a hairy or downy that got crossed with one of our Baltimore orioles. Very curious as to what it might be.

This is from a trail camera at Ruby, Santa Cruz County, AZ; riparian oak woodland at about 4,500'ASL, by a small lake; 3rd June 2018 All I can think of is a Common Black Hawk, which is certainly possible in that area. There was only the one frame of it. Anyone like to confirm or refute?
