About Me

Location

  1. S.WI 8/18, wooded area adjacent to marsh, 6ish PM. Can you tell which flycatcher this is? Sorry the photos are not great, I was really overexposed so even after turning exposure way down in LR the whites are still too bright. I feel like the breast was more gray that what is showing. Thanks!
  2. I took these photos of an unfamiliar flycatcher at Alto Lake which is at about 7,500ft elevation, in the southern half of NM, just north of Ruidoso. What's odd is in the first picture, if you zoom in, you will see a white eye ring, but in the second picture, it doesn't seem to have one. Anyway, any help is appreciated.
  3. This is an old picture I have and I'd like a confirmation... It was taken in September in Toronto. What kind is it? thx.
  4. S.WI, today. The woodpecker (I think?) flew over me into the tree, and I didn't have time to change my settings before it disappeared. It looked at least as big as a Hairy, probably bigger, but it just looked unlike the usual woodpeckers here, probably an immature something? That long white bar is definitely throwing me. Included are the original photos and the ones I lightroomed the heck out of. Is the flycatcher an Eastern Phoebe?
  5. I saw this bird in Lincoln County, Washington. I thought the eyering looked teardrop shaped, possibly a Pacific Slope Flycatcher?
  6. I've got some flycatcher pics from Iowa this summer (2020-Aug-18) that I've yet to feel confident ID-ing. Thanks for any help! Early Afternoon 1. Neal Smith NWR - Acadian Flycatcher? 2. Neal Smith NWR - Eastern Wood-Pewee? Late Afternoon 3. DeSoto NWR - Willow Flycatcher? 4. DeSoto NWR - ???
  7. Vancouver Island BC, from the last week or two. I think they might be willow flycatchers, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?
  8. Flycatcher seen July 17, 2020 in Des Moines, IA Willow?? Flycatcher.wav
  9. Can anyone help me identify this bird?!? I’m in Pendleton, Indiana (near Indianapolis) and saw this little guy today (6/20/20). I saw it around 8:45 AM with a dragonfly in its mouth. Then these pictures were taken at 4:14 PM, immediately after which it flew away and grabbed another insect mid-air. From the pictures I’ve seen, it seems to resemble a Say’s Phoebe, but that’s not supposed to be around here. But, then again, neither is the Ash-throated Flycatcher, which is what Photo Sleuth seemed to think it might be. So, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Number one was sighted on May 1st at 9:04 am. Number two was sighted today (May 9th) at 2:30 pm. Both were sighted at the edge of a cedar forest on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. I initially thought both were Eastern Phoebes, but now I am having doubts because of possible wing bars and eye rings...
  11. Hi All, This bird was seen on 6/2/2018 at the fish docks in Point Reyes California. That means, most western us flycatchers are in play. The lighting is horrible on these photos. They are not edited. It's probably a pewee, but it's body is too compact, and I don't see a vest, but that could just be a vest. Pac-slopes are the dominate species, but it's obviously not that due to eyeing shape. It's late for a Dusky/Hammonds. Bill is bad for Gray. Doesn't look like a Willow. I'm almost certain it's a pewee, but just making sure. Edit: Well I just noticed I basically narrowed it down to pewee. Guess it's just an odd photo.
  12. Hi, We saw this little guy on a fence post in Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada on April 18 around 3pm. We thought maybe a Warbling Vireo, but we also thought it could be an Eastern Phoebe which we identified nearby a couple days earlier. Maybe it is none of the above? Sorry about the head being turned. This one wouldn't sit still to have its picture taken... Thanks!
  13. Hi, I saw this bird in Toronto, ON, yesterday. Is it a phoebe or a flycatcher? what kind? thanks
  14. Arivaca Cienega, SE AZ 4-10-20 Brown Crested? Sulpher-bellied? Cassin's Kingbird? Thanks
  15. taken 6/29/19 at 9:16 AM Mahopac, NY This little bird appear to be alone going from branches to branches at the edge of a wooden area. It's the first time I've seen that bird. Is this a Great Crested Flycatcher?
  16. Hi, I saw this bird last month in Toronto. Any idea what kind of Flycatcher it is? thx
  17. I took these photos this morning at Oceanside NY. Another birder identified it by sound as an Alder Flycatcher. It does seem to match the photos on allaboutbirds.org. Correct species?
  18. Was visiting Chicago in May and not much experience with Eastern flycatchers. Any suggestions?
  19. Similar coloration of a Black Phoebe but an almost non-existent tail... Thx
  20. On July 27th this year I saw this bird which I was unable to identify and promptly forgot about it. I was thinking willow flycatcher but I can't be certain. I have these ans several more horrible photos but probably good enough to id for someone with a good eye for this. Which apparently I do not have. I have tried books and websites in an attempt to ID it but now I will turn to the experts. :D It was seen at Cave Springs Arkansas in the afternoon at the Illinois River Watershed. If there is any information I forgot to put in here please feel free to ask. Thanks
  21. What Type of flycatcher is this? taken in southern California.
